8 from me, would have liked a wingback(or 2) and someone like Jansenn up front.
Solid defence though.

Wimmer has said he's perfectly comfortable playing left wing back. Got a link mate? See me response to Boskamps above Tox. Havn't got a link, but if I have another browse I'll let you know. Trust me, that kind of thing is bound to prick up me ears.

If Afellay can play wing back I'll play greensleeves on my charlies. It demands bags of energy and pace. He's all nous and composure these days.

Great business at the back, Fletcher an upgrade on Whelan if not a long term option, and C-Moting will hopefully be good business on a free. Jesé a great short-term addition.
However, we are playing a formation for wing backs without having any, the centre of midfield is a worry with Adam and Cameron as the only back up and Cameron could be needed elsewhere if our usual mass of injuries occur, and we are looking terrible up top.
If the squad stays injury free we could be ok at best, if it doesn't then there could be trouble ahead. Opportunities missed having seen what the clubs similar to us have done.

*incomings* Wimmer Indi Fletcher Tymon Jese (loan) Eric Zouma (loan) *Outgoings* Bojan (loan) Imbula (loan) Muni (loan) Wolly Arni Walters Bards Telford (loan) Sweeney (loan) Whelan Joselu + got rid of a lot of the old guard. + big reduction in wages. + Fletcher already looks a terrific signing + some great CBs on the books + Zouma looks great could be utilised in CM + Good loans for Telford and Sweeney. + Taken the age of the squad down. + Chance for Sobhi, Edwards, Tymon, Verlinden and NGoy to shine. + Balanced the books. + Indi a snip + Squad has quality over quantity. - We will still have the same problems at the start of next season with the loss of Zouma and Jese and the return of Imbula and Bojan. - The window has a feeling of trying to do things on the cheap. - Our midfield has no depth. An injury and we're down to Adam and Cameron. - We don't have a goalscorer. - No proper wing backs. - A lot of gambles and risks that might / might not pay off in attack. So to summarise. I think it'll be binary football all the way. Some great defenders but no real goals in the side. Some good buys but lots of issues (WBs, CFs and CM) not addressed. It's a 6/10 from me. Good summary. Some good buys and some glaring issues left totally unaddressed. The massive plus for me is the attitude the players have had from the start of the season and the resigning of our captain. If we were to believe the social media/Arnie then it pointed toward a possible exodus of key players as the club was appearing to show little ambition and a few of the players were reportedly not enjoying their time with Stoke/Hughes. Shawcross had totally the opposite message today and the team have also portrayed a different message and have played with intent, organisation and purpose so far. Heart-warming start to the season, maybe a season for some of our youngsters to shine and if Jesse or Berahino can reach their full potential then we might even do better than we all thought before a ball was kicked. 6/10

7......Midfield is still a worry for me. A 100% fit Afellay (class player) would help, but we still haven't replaced the Fonz...It's such a shame we couldn't have given Imbula a brain transplant 😀 He could've been the answer...
Never mind, top 12 .... No probs.

5. there is a definite agenda running through the club that they are not going to get dragged into the sort of spending other clubs are willing to undertake. As such it was as good as it could be in terms of incomings. We have lost a lot of valuable squad depth though - presumably also the name of financial prudence.

We shipped goals in last season (and the season before) far too often
We've kept Jack Got 4 decent CB's
We've addressed the issue
We had a lot of players who were at the end of their best days
We sold these players
We addressed that issue
We had players like Imbula and Bojan who wanted first team football that we couldn't not guarantee
We loaned these players out
We addressed that issue
We never give youth a chance
We've got a good look of young players waiting in the wings
We've adressed that issue
We needed someone in midfield as a bit of a ball player. Someone to soak the pressure and then play the ball around
We signed Fletch
We addressed that issue
We needed a bit of a Marquee signing
We signed Jesse
We addressed that issue
We need a decent RWB
We got Diouf
We haven't addressed that issue
I make that a 8/10

6.5. We should hopefully have solved last season's defensive problems and hopefully won't suffer too many 3 and 4 goal thumpings this season. Jese and Eric look decent, Fletcher looks a great signing and major upgrade on Whelan.
Negatives are lack of wing backs and the strikers. I've got no faith in Berahino, whether it's confidence, the way we play or he's just shit I don't see him scoring goals for us. We could be in for a binary style season unless things click up front in ways that we can't anticipate right now.

5/10 as we have really left ourselves short in key areas that were clearly a big issue before the window opened (wingbacks / strikers) and actually look threadbare in the engine room,
The net spend figure says enough about the reality of the real ambition this football club has

3 - better defence, which wasn't our biggest problem, midfield bit of a muchness, and forwards not improved at all. I'm assuming the deals we were after didn't come off. Can't believe the transfer team believed everything was OK. Heads gone post.

Very big improvement to the defence. So far Fletcher has been a revelation. Tymon is one for the very near future Shifted a good number of players who were never going to make much of a contribution. Unlucky in securing a striker and midfielder (Janssen and Delph and who knows who else?) Didn't land a RWB but I'm sure we tried. You can't expect to get all you wish for.

Assuming there's no last minute striker signed it's a 4 from me. If Jese and/or Choupo fire then I'm wrong, but it makes no sense in these circumstances to have got rid of Walters - not my favourite player by any means - and Bojan. It's a huge gamble in attack with an ageing Crouch and an injury-prone Shaqiri. It's great to have strengthened defensively so much, but I anticipate many tense low-scoring games that leave us uncomfortably close to the drop-zone. Why should that be when there is so much wealth associated with the club?

I would go for 5, definitely some upgrades on players like Arnautovic and Whelan but I feel that we a still a long way from breaking into the top 8. The signings we have made seem to be doing well this season but I still feel rwb is a position we needed to address and I think goals will be an issue, yet again.

I like that we've freshened the squad up and brought the average age down. 1 or 2 more would have been nice but no point bringing any old shite in for the sake it. Looking forward to a decent few months before the drama starts again in January......

8 from me.
The major issue last season was goals conceded and that has been addressed with Butland back, 4 quality CBs and Fletcher bringing solidity.
We need WBs, but they do not grow on trees and I don't want my club to pay extortionate amounts of money. We will have to create our own, the way Chelsea created a WB with Moses. My only concern is will MH spend too long trying to decide who his best WBs are?
As for scoring goals, what's new? We have struggled to score goals since we got into the Prem. apart from one brief period after Wingie arrived. We have had loads of strikers come and go and few have ever achieved more than 10 goals in a season. Arni's actual contribution last season in goals and assists was not great and I'm sure one of the new guys will at least match him statistically. There is the constant cry for the 15+ goals striker, with little appreciation that relatively few goals are scored by individual brilliance; most are created by team work. We have a set of quality forwards who have the ability to synergize and create goals if they are coached well and allowed to express themselves.
I'm looking forward to a good season, particularly hoping to see young players blossom and win a regular place in the side. We are blessed with a lot of young talent that has an opportunity this year to make their mark.

7/10.
We leaked goals last season and now we have some of the best central defensive options in the league infront of a very solid keeper. I think Wimmer is going to prove to be an exceptional centre half and Martins Indi for just over 7 million is an undeniable steal. Choupo on a free is great business too, offers a lot and he's drop dead gorgeous. Fletcher could prove to be one of our best ever signings, have a feeling he still has a fair amount of time in him as a footballer and he's a model professional and he offers far, far more then Whelan did in his role. (not a knock at Glen) Tymon too looks to have a lot of potential and I feel he could be featuring for us by January, much sooner then people might expect.
However... We are settled on five at the back as our formation, which I don't dislike but it is criminal to not sign a proper wingback in the window, and I'd be looking for one on either side personally. It's perhaps the most important position in the formation and not strengthening here is criminal. We should have also signed another striker and another centre mid too.
At the end of the day we do look solid so if the right players weren't available, or we suspect they will be in January then I don't mind waiting but this seemed like the perfect summer to have a thorough overhaul of the squad and maybe nick a trophy, with the right signings.

It's about a 6 players who can't cut it gone mostly bar Johnson
Solid defence by the look of it Tymon seems a prospect Choupo looks good Fletcher great for a year or two Then we have Jese who I think will be another Shaq Sadly the pace and power in attack we have needed for a long time is still nowhere to be seen and we look 20 goals light as a team . Amazing that Hughes as a powerful forward can't find one anywhere in four years but having started the window worried about relegation I don't think we will struggle now but expect a lot of low scoring games .
