Last exercise is now complete in the South China Sea so she'll now be heading home. (Although on the way she'll be stopping off for some training with the Indian & Omani navies). Should be home in time for Christmas. (In the photos are ships & aircraft from Australia, Canada, Japan, The Netherlands, New Zealand, The UK & The US). Great picture. Weren't the French involved at some point, or have they thrown their toys out? Our CSG was just us, the Dutch and the US. wouldn’t surprise me though if the French had thrown a paddy and left. That said I think we still supplying their efforts in Mali.

Watching it now. I know they always home in on the “characters” on these documentaries, but the girl when asked about the possibility of war was a bit “really?” which made me chuckle and have concern in equal measure. The stores lad as well…I’m sure he could be a laugh, but not sure I could spend much time in his company 😂.
Edit…Christ, he’s even put his cap on backwards at a discipline hearing 😂😂

He reminds me a bit of Norman Wisdom, wouldn't have been allowed in in my days with admitting to taking drugs.

Indded but the other side of the naval dockyard is a bit sad with the “dead ‘ships forbsale one breaking its a sad sign of the reduction in the fantastic Royal, navy In its day Warrior (in the foreground)was the most powerful and feared warship in the world. A combination of sail and steam power giving speed and manoeuvrability was so avoided by opponents that she never fired a shot in anger. Visitors to the dockyard stream past her to view Victory, but should you have the opportunity go on board for a guided tour. An amazing ship.

They used to do "dinner evenings" on there, may still do, I organised one for a works Xmas do years ago, cracking evening, very atmospheric place to dine.

Great photo from today in Portsmouth of HMS Queen Elizabeth, HMS Prince of Wales & HMS Warrior (In the foreground). (Not my photo, nicked it off Twitter). I saw them both docked in Portsmouth around this time. The Warriors big but these are humongous. I couldn’t get over how big they were. Well worth a trip round the dockyard and going on the ships if you’re ever down that way. Not cheap but was a fascinating experience all round.

I went to see the Prince of Wales when it was alongside in Liverpool, got a good view of it from the Birkenhead ferry, huge to us and magnificent, but alongside the USS Nimitz and such like it'd probably look like a tug boat Somehow the yank ships always seem to look uglier than ours but I may be biased Having said that USS Iowa is/was a very impressive sight.

Very good series. The RN has a reputation for snobbishness and macho bullying but they seem to be doing their best to dispel it. Or maybe times have changed? The ability to watch I Player is really excellent.

The ability to watch I Player is really excellent. I very rarely saw any problems on ships I was on whilst we were at sea, most people got on quite well with each other, endless banter obviously but the vast majority of it good natured I think one of the reasons could be that most people were tee-total when the ship was at sea. You'd get the odd arsehole that struggled to fit in but they were few and far between. Basic training was a different matter back in the day, they could (and did) get away with an awful lot then, but once you were out in the fleet the vast majority that I met were great lads and that's coming from a 'Tiff' - the likes of whom tended to get a bit more 'grief' than usual

We had 1 guy who got caught with his hand is someone else's bag taking a wallet, he fell down the ladders a few times and was taken off the ship.

I genuinely felt for them a little all over SE Asia and covid kept them onboard ship. I couldn't imagine sitting in Singapore and Japan and not getting off although they did manage to go ashore in Guam.
