I'm waiting on an op on a nerve impingement thing going on in my neck, D. Bit scary with them operating so close to the spinal cord but I'm sure it'll be fine. In the meantime, the main nerves that are affected are those to my fingers & thumb in my right hand. Aside from pain & weakness, there's a tendency for the thumb, ring finger & little finger to curl in, but the first and middle finger to stick straight out. Resulting in a very Churchillian gesture. Much befitting my air of self-importance and faux-grandeur.
Or a Harvey Smith gesture if viewed another way. Very useful if Mrs Q asks me to do the washing up.
Good luck with the op ! I've got similar in my neck (between 5th and 6th vertebrae) and lower back (between 3rd and 4th blottom vertebrae) but at the moment I'm on medication to try to control the pain. They've decided to wait on doing an op until the pain get's worse - good of them isn't it ? Thanks, D. I think it's C5 & C6 with me too. they were basically doing the same with me. Waiting, doing nothing, went on for over a year. Until I told them the pain was now so bad that I couldn't sleep, couldn't write, couldnt' drive, couldn't open jars/bottles, couldn't type. So it was affecting my entire life and livelihood (I really laid it on thick). Only drugs on offer which would work would also play havoc with my short term memory (who'd notice the difference?).
Finally they referred my case to a surgeon, within an hour he came back & said the only thing that would fix the pain & weakness is surgery. Some new trial they're doing so I should even get surgery within weeks rather than having to wait another 6 months.
Mrs Q: "Trial? It's about time they put you on trial".
Free the Quiet One !
Genuine advice from Mrs Q about the NHS - exaggerate all your symptoms to the point they clearly require immediate action. It's the only way the NHS will queue-jump you and do something. Sad, as the NHS is one of our greatest ever inventions, but true.

I spent a very unproductive evening in our local A&E last night after managing to slice one of my fingers to the bone with a pair of (what proved to be very sharp) garden secateurs - 4 hours and five stitches later I escaped ! My finger is bandaged up like you see on the cartoons. So no washing up duties for me (the missus isn't happy) but apart from that I'm ready to go for the new season. Ooooo, 'ow 'orrible - I've just gone all light 'eaded --- (**sniffs smelling salts and recovers**) --- mind you, I think you had a very lucky escape, Dees….. it could have been SO MUCH worse - You could have done it on Monday night, and then you would've missed Rabbit. Ah well, 'every cloud', an' all that. Get well soon, sunbeam. xxx

I wrapped it in a tea towel with some ice, and it was completely soaked through with blood by the time I got to A&E. They took me into triage straight away but they just gave me another load of dressings and told me to wait and I'd be "seen soon"........some 3 hours later ! I forgot to say I was also the lucky recipient of a tetanus jab as well !

You're all good chaps and chapesses. Thanks for the offer. It'll be LGI (Leeds General Infirmary) and I'll let you know the date in due course. Very handily placed for a large number of fine refreshment establishments. Also not far from the train station if you're wanting a trip to York too.

Some of our past excursions have been documented in the 'Live Open Surgery' thread.

I'm suddenly feeling better. Much better. No need for an op, honest. Just put the bunch of grapes & your wishing wells in the post. No need to come and see me, especially if you're wearing white coats & bearing sharp instruments.
However, if you did happen to make it to northern climes, Mrs Q has said I can fend for myself & she'll join you all in York for a bit of culture (and a lot of gin).

It's too late JD - our plans have already been made ! Just ask Chuffed, he'll confirm just how "helpful" murph and myself are when it comes to your "recuperation". For a "nominal fee" we could "forget" to bring the sharp instruments but we'll still come fully "equipped" to "do the necessary" ! Mrs Q is obviously very welcome to join us on a bit of post op R&R just make sure she has the G&T's lined up for murph, or she can sometimes get a little "testy" !

Piece of helpful advice Q. If the offer of post operative services are forthcoming from certain areas/ individuals accept with open arms and mind. 👍

Well, talk about 'Return o' the Livin' Dead'…… at this rate we're going to have to get a new set of special polo shirts done, innit. Remember how we've (esp. Dees, Chuff, Cheesy and myself) laughed and joshed over the past couple of years about various ones of our number - and there have been quite a few, both up 'ere and dahn saahff - taking it in turns going into hospital to have various things replaced/removed/rejigged/taken out, zshuzshed up a bit and put back/fed to maggots/also whilst under anaesthetic being adorned 'in very personal places' with ball bearings, feathers and tinsel and the footage set to music and posted on YouTube, etc? But who could possibly have guessed who was going to be next on the list??? Basically, guess who suddenly found herself in an emergency ambulance en route to the Royal Stoke in early August for a week-long stay? Yeah, right first time, and Kinnell, worra shock and thoroughly 'orrible experience - by that I mean what happened, not being in there - everybody on the nursing staff was FANTASTIC. Won't go into any gory details in case anyone's got a bowl of tomato soup in front of them, but when Lord Wossichops on Downton had a nasty run-in with ulcers (it's on YouTube) it wasn't a pretty sight but it was chickenfeed compared with my do, right out of the blue, with the same thing. Glad to be back home now and slowly recovering. I'm sure the biggest difference in getting better was two three-hour transfusions, so if you see me starting a thread on the subject sometime soon, that's why, and if anyone on the Oatie is a regular donor, thank you. Also it's important to add that despite joking around above, some of our members have recently had extremely serious treatments, ops and procedures, so I'd like to stress that as far as they are concerned there's no way I would ever take the subject of being hospitalised lightly at all. Got quite a bit of catching up to do on the Oatie now and if Cheesy can leave me out of the EEFC team selection for a week or two it would help. Ta!

Well, talk about 'Return o' the Livin' Dead'…… at this rate we're going to have to get a new set of special polo shirts done, innit. Got quite a bit of catching up to do on the Oatie now and if Cheesy can leave me out of the EEFC team selection for a week or two it would help. Ta! Glad to hear you're well and recovered.... I was thinking about you the other day and decided it was probably something to do with the holiday season or that the dominatrix business was doing overly well at the minute I think Cheesy's leaving everyone out at the minute.... we're all in the bomb squad Awww, thanks, dude………. it's been a bluddy awful, scary, horrendous experience, and you're not going to believe this but all I can fancy drinking since coming back home is tea! Mind you, I've always been a tea fanatic - and it's not that I've been told to keep out of the Chateau's extensive wine cellars, or off the Bombay or Russian stuff etc., nor did alcohol play any part in the problem - I just don't fancy it. Fido, Tiddles and Mr Surf (in that order) are glad I'm back and Parker says he is, although he's also hinted at a touch of boredom at only having cups of tea to make these days even if his accompanying 5 o'clock French Fancies are quite a delight. Ah, yes, speaking about the dominatrix business, it is indeed doing exceptionally well, thanks, especially with SCFC fans who, as you well know, have got used to being tortured over the past 3 years and now just like to take it in various different forms now and again, as the fancy takes them. As a matter of fact their robust patronage gave us the idea of issuing Season Tickets, which I must say have gone down a storm as just like the Mighty Potters we haven't had a price rise for several years now, plus our seats have far more legroom and last but not least we do pride ourselves on offering very superior pies at half time. But I digress……… I could never understand before how the guests could possibly enjoy all that chained-to-the-wall stuff, Fel (in fact I recall telling you the same thing last time you popped in for your annual 'friend of the owner freebie' whilst Sadie and Myrtle were seeing to fixing your ankle chains and ski mask), but after having just spent a 96-hour stint myself wired up to the mains and on one of those fluid-drip-feed things on a portable stand I can understand it even less because I was literally counting the minutes until I could get off the thing. Wassall this about Cheesy and the bomb squad then? Are they landmining the running course to make it more interesting for the spectators? I suggested that YEARS ago and it's about bluddy time they got it done. That and the Russian Roulette water bottle stand halfway round the course!

Wow, so sorry to hear about this murph, I thought you'd been quiet lately. Really pleased that you're feeling a bit better now although not completely recovered as yet. Take it easy and hope you're back to full fitness (!) as soon as possible. If you're really good then myself, Chuffed and a few more of the gang will visit with the customary grapes, apples and few other goodies ! You're right though, there have been quite a few Oatie members and EEFC regulars in the wars lately and thankfully all seem to be on the mend. Ta ever so, Dees, and I like black seedless grapes and Pink Lady Apples. And NO ASPIRIN!!! (Could do with a little facie-thing of a skull & crossbones to post if it's ever mentioned.......)

I think visitations of good will and the bearing of fine gifts is entirely in order. Get better asap murph and think of me wrapping up a celebratory ball bearing in your honour. Chuffed. Well thank ee koinly, Chuff, and I shall look forward to the arrival of the fine gifts! The EEFC team hasn't half been knocked about this last few months. I wonder if Cheesy's completely off the maggots yet?
