Go back just 20 years to Glasto 97 & you had The Prodigy, The Smashing Pumpkins, Supergrass, Beck, The Levellers and Echo & the Bunnymen just on the Pyramid Stage just on the Friday! (Add in Radiohead, Ash, Ocean Colour Scene, The Seahorses, Sting, The Chemical Brothers & Cast among others over the weekend) Anyroad, enough moaning over how shit modern music is ... Whack up some mint Glasto performances. I'll get us started with...

In terms of it being a rock/pop festival it's doomed. The current generation haven't picked up the rock music baton. American dance music/RnB is edging its way in and that's its future (at least musically). As long as you can take selfies who cares what's playing

As long as you can take selfies who cares what's playing The current generation are dripping in music, spoilt for choice. Technology has put everything at their fingertips from the Sixties to the present. I took my lad and his three mates up to Leeds last year and the car was full of real music there and back, present and past. I was even treated to a blast of Jolene

A lot more hip-hop/grime/dance music is on the bill this year, which doesn't bother me as I like a lot of it but it will turn a few off as well.

Glastonbury is huge, and there's plenty of other areas to explore other than the main stages. I went back in 2005, when the pyramid stage got struck by lighting and the site flooded. The whole festival is an awesome experience with so much stuff going on.
I tried to get tickets a couple of years ago for my 40th and failed. I'd love to return again and will try for tickets in the future.

I've made no effort to keep up with modern music, but I must say I'm very disappointed that Michael Eavis has not produced a line-up full of people I know.
Disgraceful.

In 1984 I went down with a load of mates (about 15 in all) and we all couldn't stand The Smiths. So, totally cidered and amphetamined up, we decided to make our way to the front and pretty much make complete arses of our selves.
What came next was not in any way planned at all but a sequence of events just followed randomly one after another and the whole thing spiralled out of control ...
We had decided to build a human period and muggins ended up being the one going up at the top, anyway when the whole thing collapsed, I managed to grab hold of the edge of the stage and started to climb up right in front of Johnny Marr who came forward and gave me a hand to help me up. Their security came rushing on to the stage to get me off but Johnny stood between them and me and said "No let him stay, it's cool". I hadn't got a bloody clue what to do, now I was there, so I started doing this stupid Smith's dance before remembering that I had got a water pistol in my pocket (we all had them and had been annoying people with them all weekend).
So I pulled the gun out of my pocket, walked towards Morrisey, who turned white as a ghost (remember this was just four years after Lennon had been shot) raised the gun up to his chest and fired the water all over him, at this point total pandemonium broke out and their set was over.
In the bottom left hand picture you can just about make out the gun in my right hand and the point at which Morrisey clocks it, sadly there isn't a picture of me actually firing it.
That was the last Glastonbury without barriers at the front!
Looking forward to this weekend though, there's some great bands on, we've got our deck chairs set up the living room, the fridge is full of beer and wine and the lap top is linked up to the telly!

Sadly there doesn't appear to be a video of when Pulp stepped in at the last minute for The Stone Roses in 1995 and did an epic version of Common People but here are a few other great Glastonbury moments.
Great performance I think from just last year, pity that the vast majority of the crowd haven't got a clue what the song is.
Goosebumps ...
Can't resist a stage invasion!

Best I can do is Led Zeppelin at Knebworth. Even then they were late on stage. Richard Digance saved the day. Love Richard Digance. Never heard of him until in 1990 he came to the Falklands where I was posted at the time. He was absolutely fucking ace and we took him to sea for a a week down to South Georgia where he entertained the boot necks. Really decent bloke.
