27 story apartment block in Kensington engulfed in flames. Broke out at 2AM and people are trapped. Some seen jumping. I fear this is gonna be grim. Building being refurbed and early reports suggest some sort of electrical fire may be the cause... Just shocking scenes...

Just watching it now, shocking scenes. Apparently started by a Fridge exploding on the 4th floor?! Looks like it might collapse as well.

Looks horrendous. One eyewitness was cut off on BBC1 earlier when his account started to mention children being held at open windows

BBC now saying 30 people being treated in hospital. It looks like there are sadly going to be a very large number of fatalities.
Must have been horrific to be inside knowing there was no escape.

That does sound horrendous.
Even before 9/11 happened I always said that if I lived or worked in one of these tall buildings then my first purchase would be a bloody parachute or, if it was only something like 15 stories, 100yards of abseiling rope and a good pair of gloves. I'd rather take my chances outside than to suffocate and burn to death.

I always remember on one of our firefighting courses somewhere, a fire officer saying that they cannot fight fires above 8 storeys high and don't want buildings built any higher without sprinklers put in. www.kctmo.org.uk/

How does a fridge explode? A little frigo compressor a light and a thermostat. R21 refrigerator gas is inert isn't it?
Talk of 50 people in hospital but I've got an awful feeling about the eventual fatalities. Terrible terrible news.

Sorry, I thought you meant about the firefighting. Agree, somebody may be shitting themselves now, thinking about reports and actions they haven't done.

Apparently a lot of Muslim families escaped safely, as they were awake at that time due to part of their Ramadan ritual to eat at that time.

Will the group that furiously predicted an inferno was imminent 6months ago be questioned or is it straight forward faulty white goods ?

Rydon completed the refurbishment to all current H&S requirements so they say. Rydons fault then.

Supposedly each flat should be fire resistant for a half hour so in theory if the fire is 6 flats along it should take 3 hours to get to you so most people should stay put. Seems the fire roared up the outside of the cladding affecting everyone at almost the same time.

Devastating.
I have the awful feeling this is one of those ones where the dead toll will suddenly leap from the current 6 in to 3 figures.
500 people in the block, I mean how many could have escaped from the top half of the building?
It's just heart breaking.

It's just heart breaking. My fear too mate yes. RIP to everyone who perished and thoughts to all the families involved. One potential glimmer of hope is that according to a number of news outlets, many families are apparently Muslim and were awake at the time it started due to Ramadan. Many were apparently therefore able to escape and alert their neighbours on the way out. Let's hope that's true.

Very very sad what has happened and I just can't imagine how those people must have felt😮 I really can't see why Corbyn is playing the blame game already though😡

Seems the fire roared up the outside of the cladding affecting everyone at almost the same time. It is an appalling event and it seems beyond belief that it is apparently legally acceptable to clad the outside of a tower block with insulated panels containing some kind of foam. (The quantity and type of smoke and the way the fire spread with flaming materials dripping down the side of the building is a real give away). There is no point in making the internal fire resistant if the fire can spread so quickly and devastatingly up the outside. There should be no way that the external façade of any skyscraper should burn as the whole point of fire safety in very tall buildings is that you can isolate the fire to allow those inside to remain safely in their rooms or to be evacuated in a safe and orderly manner by the fire brigade. One can but hope that no more bodies are found once the fire has been extinguished.

Hold back for the next few days as you'll be shocked at what comes out. Corbyn has been very restraint and acknowledged that for now it's about rescue & recovery but he knows the failings that have led to this and I trust him to expose and seek justice for those poor souls who have suffered as a result.
