Look honestly its not about ohhhhh... Iâd love to see what the âfinancial contributionâ would be. Iâd wager it wonât be on the same terms as other EU countries as itâs another opportunity for the EU to bleed more money out of the U.K. The letter is pretty open in trying to shift blame if there is no extension as well....no reference to the EUâs unreasonable and entrenched position is there? The letter isnât fit for emergency big paper but there will be loads lapping it up and wishing their hardest that something comes out of it to keep the handcuffs firmly locked. For sure they do 5 year budgets dont they ? If we were stupid enough they'd front load the spending so we paid more of it, the timing is shameful they were clearing hoping to flush out any remainers for the last attempt to try and stall it.

Its not about brexit ohhhhhh part 2 above The hysteria following Cummings comings and goings is quite remarkable. Youâre quite right, IMO, in seeing Remain sentiment being behind it whether that is limited to punishing the âarchitectâ of Brexit or if it is more ambitious in trying to resurrect a BRINO deal which would to require Johnson removal from #10. But the hysteria is not unique. Itâs reminiscent of the storms that hit Johnson when he became PM and suffered defeat after defeat in Westminster. Itâs easy to forget the shitstorm that hit him after he sacked a bunch of his own MPs after which a bunch more resigned positions including his own brother not to mention the prorogation of Parliament and the subsequent court ruling against him. His opponents would say itâs evidence of why the man is a charlatan consistent with the mess heâs made of the coronavirus crisis. They might do well to consider something else - Boris Johnson seems to be able to weather storms; he may get pushed around, but he doesnât get floored. IMO, things are no way near as tough for him as they were last Autumn. Itâs hard not to see him riding this storm out. Then itâs full steam ahead with Brexit. Possibly.

It is a mistake to write off any politician.
Thatcher was massively unpopular with her monetary policies, the union legislation, miners strike, etc. but then along came the Falklands crisis.
Churchill was a pariah in the 1930s (and still is to some), as a consequence of numerous WWI debacles, turning troops on the miners, and being regarded as as war monger.
I'm not suggesting Boris is anyway a match for those two, but pointing out that a politicians popularity can dramatically change. Unlike those two I don't think he has any principles just an insatiable desire to get things done. I fear he will accept any deal with the EU to get Brexit over and done with, and move on.

I agree, with cummings they overegged the story told blatent lies, apparently record number of ipso complaints are expected against the mirror who lead a front page with a single uncorrobated source, the press conference was a train wreck for the press none of them adapted their pre prepared monologues for release straight to social media to what he actually said all you got was lots of shouty people asking the same question, they compound it with the hounding of him at home and his parents being doorstepped, throw in led by donkeys stunt and the media completely botched the hit job and have lost much sympathy. Still Dom is one of those guys who wont hold a grudge ohhhhhh....... Boris as you say has come through much harder and even at the height of the frenzy the conservative vote % "collapsed" to the 2019 vote share, the problem Labour dont seem to get is it doesnt matter what shit the press and they throw at him, the public generally seem to just like him everything is priced in with a kind of thats boris for you, the only equivalent I can perhaps think of in the last 30 years is maybe Dennis Skinner but not on the same level of national recognition. I should also add Starmer has messed up should have stuck to asking for an inquiry by going all in on the resign horse, he has opened himself up both now and in the future to being asked why he wont sack xyz and he has two major reoprts coming the EHRC report and the data breach and fines over the it wasnt corbyn report both of these are likely to include claims against party offivisls, members and even mps far more serious than anything cummings did requiring sackings.

Its early days, I think and hope that Boris's team can get us through stage two( December 31st)...they are saying the right things and asserting our sovereignty at the moment. As we move forward I do believe that our politicians will gain authority and self belief. I think Politicians such as Rishni Sunak are well capable. Dealing with a non political virus is a whole different ball game. Boris and his gang (there is not a strong statesman amongst them), are not clever enough to deal with and hAndle the European leaders Here is the next part of the negotiations if you are interested Kiddie. ttps://www.gov.uk/government/publications/fourth-round-uk-eu-future-relationship-negotiations-2-5-june-2020

First Honda and now Nissan ffs. Damn you Brexit BBC News - Nissan shuts Barcelona plant with the loss of 2,800 jobs www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-52829348Sent from my F8331 using proboards We all tend to get carried away with politics and think every decision organisations make is political, forgetting there are many other factors such as local costs (local currency), efficiency, talent, industrialness, logistics, etc. I would be very shocked if Nissan closed its Sunderland plant. I have been round it twice and been massively impressed by its efficiency and the commitment of the workforce. The plant has consistently been in the top 10 most efficient car assembly plants in the world, one of only 2 outside of Japan and S Korea. The commitment of the employees at all levels is far greater than say the Jaguar works I have visited. We also need to bear in mind that there was a marked decline in car sales prior to the pandemic. People's habits are changing and there is a strong move in societies towards more environmentally friendly cars, down sizing, and keeping cars longer before changing them. A Volvo dealer once told me that their biggest problem is customers want to hang onto their cars longer before changing them. With many companies offering long term warranty deals, and contract hire over a number of years, I am sure this has been slowing down the sale of new cars. Works closures will inevitably follow.

True enough. But I also suspect this nice little sweetener influenced Nissan's thinking too... www.ft.com/content/01191c5e-287b-11e9-a5ab-ff8ef2b976c7Could be behind a paywall so here it is... UK government vowed to shield Nissan from Brexit fallout Letter promised Japanese carmaker it would not be âadversely affectedâ by leaving EU The released letter also promised support of about ÂŁ80m towards Nissan in Sunderland in return for expanding SUV production there Peter Campbell and Jim Pickard in London FEBRUARY 4 2019 Theresa May is under renewed pressure to rule out a no-deal Brexit after it emerged that the government promised Nissan in 2016 that it would not be âadversely affectedâ by Britainâs departure from the EU. The assurances were contained in a previously unseen letter from business secretary Greg Clark to then-Nissan chief executive Carlos Ghosn, which led to the Japanese car groupâs decision to build new models at its Sunderland car plant. Nissan ripped up that decision at the weekend, announcing it would shift production of the X-Trail SUV back to Japan in a move that has increased pressure on the prime minister. As preparations for a no-deal scenario ramp up with 53 days to go, HMRC announced that it would wave through goods from the EU without checks in a bid to avoid gridlock at the border. Mr Clark on Monday warned that a no-deal Brexit would be âruinousâ to the economy. The government fully recognises the significance of the EU markets to your presence in Sunderland Letter to Nissan The parliamentary battle over Britainâs departure from the EU is set to come to a head next week with some ministers threatening to resign in a last-ditch attempt to block a no-deal Brexit on March 29. Rebecca Long-Bailey, shadow business secretary, warned that the governmentâs ârecklessâ threat of a no-deal Brexit was having a real impact already: âThe government must rule out no-deal, for the sake of the car industry, manufacturing and the economy as a whole.â The text of the letter to Nissan highlights the gulf between the current shift towards a no-deal scenario, which could involve tariffs and delays at the British border, and previous pledges made by the government. The letter, which the government had previously declined to release under a series of Freedom of Information requests, also promised support of about ÂŁ80m towards Nissanâs investments at the site in return for the decision by Nissan to expand SUV production at Sunderland. Brexit or diesel? Why Japan's Nissan has cancelled SUV production at Sunderland car plant The letter said the governmentâs investment was âcontingent too on a positive decision by the Nissan board to allocate production of the Qashqai and X-Trail models to the Sunderland plantâ. As a result of pulling X-Trail, Nissan will be forced to re-bid for the government support it was scheduled to receive for the project â which has fallen to ÂŁ61m â Greg Clark, business secretary, announced on Monday. Nissan reverses out of UK X-Trail decision âThe company will submit new applications in the standard way and undergo a process of independent assessment,â he said. In its 2016 letter, the government made no specific promise on the UKâs future trading relationship with the EU â such as remaining in the blocâs customs union â but vowed to protect car manufacturers in the UK. They would be a âcritical priority of our negotiationsâ with the EU, the letter said. âThe government fully recognises the significance of the EU markets to your presence in Sunderland,â the letter stated. âIt will be a critical priority of our negotiations to support UK car manufacturers, and ensure their ability to export to and from the EU is not adversely affected by the UKâs future relationship with the EU.â Despite there being no assurances over the customs union, the letter did acknowledge Nissanâs anxiety over âuncertainties as the UK prepares to leave the EU, in particular your fear that potential future trade arrangements could affect the business case for your investmentsâ. Nissan workers fear for future of Sunderland plant In the House of Commons on Monday, MPs chastised the government for refusing to rule out a no-deal scenario that would lead to tariffs and border checks. âFar from allaying those fears [the government] has exacerbated them because this government has refused to take no deal off the table,â said Anna Soubry, a Tory Europhile MP. Mrs May will travel to Northern Ireland on Tuesday and to Brussels later in the week as she tries to build support for a revamped Brexit deal, but senior members of her party admitted there was little chance of an early breakthrough.
