The past 18 months have seen Everton move on to a significantly different footing to ourselves - prior to that we probably had a bit more spending power and might even have been seen as being on more of an 'upward curve' as a club. Now I'm certain the likes of Shaq would sign for them in an instant given the options he had back then and I'm sure Arnie might be regretting it a bit too if the truth was told.

He would be a flop anywhere else. Has to operate as the star player. He'd be our star player by miles. Disagree. I couldn't see him working well with Shaqiri and Arnie.

Id seriously throw our hat in to the mix just in case, could you imagine a front line of; Shaq--Sigurdsson--Arnie -------Berahino That looks good.... To me, he's at least "ONE" of the missing pieces of jigsaw!!!

He is easily within our reach and a real top player for a team like us great free kick specialist. Not sure I agree with the first bit but definitely agree with the second.

You're right I would much rather we spent that sort of money on William Carvalho. I honestly think we have options for that role and its not a pressing need I'd spend my transfer budget on a CDM a LB and RB. Try to pick a Right sided CB up on a Bosman. I don't think that would solve all our problems but they're not solvable in one window. I'd like us to be taking 3/4 punts per season on unproven players ready for a crack at the league right away but given our immediate needs that might have to wait for a few windows.

I don't think he is in our range, to be honest. I think we need to sell players before we buy, not in respect of finance, just to be clearer of what is actually needed.

We don't have too many saleable assets that we'd want to lose though do we? I think we've shot ourselves in the foot with the contracts we've already given out. Who would you sell apart from Imbula at a very big loss?

I'd just get what we can for the 30+ players in the squad apart from Whelan and Cameron.

We have to shift Joselu, Wolly and maybe Bojan who aren't even in the 25 thats before we make any room for maneuver at all. We've hemmed ourselves in as if everything is going like clockwork instead of coming off a season that even the owner charitably describes as disappointing.

I think we'd be better off investing money in our back line, concentrate on getting Butland fit and keeping Shaqiri fit and bringing in at least one very solid and mobile ball winner in midfield. We have the firepower in spades but if we're honest, the lack of a solid base behind them (Butland out and Shawcross' back problems with multiple partners) has hindered them and us over the past 18 months. I'm confident that in Shaqiri and Arnautovic, we have two players capable of hitting 9 goals and 12 assists each (...and more) with the right base behind them. "We have the firepower in spades" You sure about that?

He has been an integral part of the team, we can't just get rid of him until his replacement is settled. I said to keep those two because they can still be useful but by no means first eleven. I'd rather see Joselu come off the bench than Crouch next season and I'd rather see Bojan in our starting eleven than the man whose name is in the title of this thread.

Good player but not what we need. Why isn't he? We need an attacking midfielder pretty desperately don't we?

..and with a ready made nickname if he proves a star - "Top"! I would take a punt on Wells from Huddersfield too. Orson ? That would be awesome!
