Absent again with another injury..apparently.
Really?
How many games has he started this season?
Something doesn't seem right or is it just my suspicious mind?
Does Shaq still want to play for us?
I have my doubts.

I have my doubts. Well about two thirds of the squad seem not to want to play for us so it wouldn't exactly be surprising. People about Crouch, Walters and others but at least they put a shift in. Frankly I'd sack most of these 'fancy football' tossers off and stick with the ones that'll put a shift in. We might end up back with hoofball but that's pretty much where we are again anyhow. Can't be much worse than this turgid shit season has been.

All the talent in the world but is sadly another one that doesn't seem to want it badly enough. I wouldn't lose sleep over it if we moved him on in the summer.

Our best player. Keeping him should be the main priority. Being our best player (which I completely disagree with, by the way) is of little or zero value if you're out "injured" more often than playing. He is currently a luxury we cannot afford. He needs to shape up and keep fit or ship out.

On the bus on the way to the ground in amongst the usual hilarity of expectation at facing yet another tough test I'm sure I heard Mark Bowen on Radio Stoke saying something like, "Shaq is fit but we decided to let him take the time, play his international game and then hopefully be ready for a return after that." We'll see. No use re-introducing the death penalty over it.

Amazing we're 9th really isn't it? Also amazing that Hughes has managed to get us finishing consistently higher up the table, season after season, than 'pulls' ever managed, it's a miracle. And under 'pulls' we did little else but fucking defend.

Aclean sheet away at Man City, and only 2 individual errors today let free scoring Chelsea score, shows we are now defending as a unit.

We have generally defended well the last couple of games.

Any chance of explaining why Grant has the 4th highest number of clean sheets of any keeper on the division then? Agendas.

Shaqiri's injuries will be the same as Victor Moses. As soon as he ends up at a club he really wants to be at, he will miraculously play the full season.

Shaqiri is a fairy and has no stamina. Somebody here mentioned playing him as a number 10 but he'd soon get bullied out of that. The only place for him if he has a place in the team at all is out wide. Even then he's only active in spasms.

He's the alpine Messi about as fragile as melting snow , we can't have players on £70 grand a week who don't play , it's time he moved on I'm afraid

I think we've seen that Shaqiri is one of those modern day footballers who's celebrity is based on a few YouTube clips of great goals and a bit of skill. He doesn't do it consistently enough, he doesn't seem to be interested in doing the hard work in a game. He should take a long look at the work rate and consistency Ramadan has put in and also what arnie does too. Shaqiri the supposed world class footballer is a fraud imo.

When he first missed with this latest injury I predicted he'd be fit enough to play the week before the next international fixtures. It is truly beyond a joke.

Shaq is very good at his best, but is a very inconsistent player too. In addition he is injured for half of the games we play, so if we could get back the money we paid for him I would really consider to sell!

Bowen absolutely did put that message across. Very odd. I suppose we just wait now and see if Shaq fancies a bit of a kick about after he has finished doing the business for Switzerland. He probably won't.

Bit of a rambling explanation from Mark Bowen. Are his calves ever going to be up to the demands of a season?
"It's a difficult one with Xherdan with the history of his injury. Obviously he had the calf injury and then before the last game, he trained 2 days before it and then literally the day before the game, he said his other calf was sore"
"So there was a concern there and he was a bit edgy and nervous about it, so he wasn't involved there"
"Now this week, he's trained 3 or 4 days - but when you come into a game against Chelsea, and there's a worry about both his calves...."
"In fairness to him, he wants to play and he feels he's ready having had the 3 or 4 days training in the last 5 or 6 weeks"
"So we've taken a view that we've come off a fantastic performance at Man City - and we want now to see Shaq go away with Switzerland, train every day, get a full 90 in and please God he comes through that and is ready and raring to go for the last 9 games - whereas if you put him in at any time and he does go again and he's not quite ready, we only get him for the last 4 or 5 games, rather than the last 9"

Our best player. Keeping him should be the main priority. I've seen enough of Sobhi already to prefer him and Arnie on the wings. I'm not saying Shaqiri isn't a good player but, unless he's going to play in the centre, I can't see justification for him playing.

I like him as a player BUT:
If we're playing 4-4-2 then the only option for him is right wing. Would he be happy playing second fiddle to one of Arnie or Ramadan?
He's injured all the fucking time.
He's taking home 70k a week to sit on the bench or lie on the treatment table.
The pragmatic thing to do here is recoup £12m while we still have a chance to do so. There'll be plenty of takers.
