My Mrs has set up a village litter picking team, and pick once a month, the council loan out a load of picking equipment and give out the bags, and arrange pick up of the full bags from a certain spot, the village co op now donates tea and biscuits to have after in the scout hall where people meet. the litter just seems to be getting worse, costas, KFc, Mcdonalds, subway, red bull cans, Lucozade bottles, take aay sandwich acks etc. all seems to be the teenage to early 20 range and the uneducated grab and go brigade tossing it out of their car windows. Wankers the lot of them.. The litter of choice here seems to be Carling cans on one day last week I picked three up. out in the far single track country lanes on Saturday morning there were lots of carling cans, and wine bottles, hardly a house about, must be the local dog walkers

Back to litter & dog shite. The careless disposal of it can be summed up by a lack of respect for the community, the environment and even lack of self respect. There seems to be more moronic brainless idiots around now than ever. The pence/bottle or can idea seems to gaining legs and apparently is done in some countries - much to the benefit of the community. How about shutting down drive-through outlets like McDonalds, Starbucks etc ? I can't understand the mentality of using a drive-through anyway - everyone moans about getting stuck in traffic jams then some purposely go and join one to wait for an overpriced crappy coffee. Some have no time to take the empty to a bin so chuck it out of the car window. Go figure that logic?! I would like reg plate of vehicle attached to packaging at all drive through outlets plus a 10% levy over eat in price which could be then used to fund litter picks in the area and perhaps free meal voucher for said outlets. Non drive through outlets should be made to provide and clean and empty bins in the local area around their premises.

Why not put a large refundable deposit on each piece of non biodegradable packaging? And keep the deposits and payments in a separate account from the "restaurant" accounts. That way, most of the dirty scum take their litter back to where they bought it, homeless folk, tramps and other litter pickers can make a profit from discarded packaging they pick up from the street, (and possibly donations made by people who can't be bothered to go back), the packaging becomes a problem for the source-supplier perhaps encouraging them to have a rethink about which sorts of packaging they use, any balance in the deposit account at the end of the financial year must be donated to the local council to help fund other litter picking activities. Everyone’s a winner.

Littering makes me so angry when a lot of it is unnecessary and takes place within sight of a litter bin. Big fines need to be enforced as a deterrent. Better to stop the littering occuring than have to later use a great deal of manual labour to clear the rubbish.
You'd think that with all the environmental activists and protesters around we would now have a young green generation who are aware and protective of their local surroundings at least. But in many car parks in late evening you get cars full of kids parked up, and as they munch their way through canned drinks and snacks they just through the packaging out of the window. The car moves off and leaves a rough circle of up to a dozen pieces of litter around where the car was positioned.
We have to attack the culture of ignorance that it is someone elses problem and if you persistently drop litter, someone else will always come and clear it up.

I do wonder if charging at local tips is partly to blame. They even charge for Van's etc to go into the tip at federation road (a one off thing to register) . It cant make sence to charge at tips when imho it leads to fly tipping the costs alone cant cover the cost of fly tipping. Relax the regulations at tips make it free to dispose of rubbish.

The vast majority of people are in favour of it and it can't be that difficult to implement as you just have to copy how it's done in other countries.

We always seem to be several years behind everyone else with these matters. We fart and fanny around with consultation groups, special interest groups and all the rest of them instead of simply grabbing the bull by the horns and copying what the best in Europe (usually the Germans) does. There might be a few things which need ironing out in the light of experience but that’s no big deal and shouldn’t be used as an excuse for us to be so slow with everything.

None whatsoever in this modest Welsh town in the last couple of weeks. People pass on the virus, people drop litter, solution = get rid of the people. 🤔 Oh hang on...

It is just another example of the selfish attitude of a lot of people. The world revolves around them, nobody else counts for anything - they drop their litter, someone else will pick it up for them.
It also shows the amount of respect that these pieces of shit have for their own surroundings - none whatsoever.

Well I haven't been picking up any litter over the past 6 weeks for obvious reasons but surprisingly there hasn't been as much around. The plan is this weekend to go out and do the litter pick with a grab. However what made me make this post was that some lowlife raised the bar this week and threw a mask out of the car.... and not one of Harry's gimp masks either
