Big fan of Storyville. There's a really good rap one, and that Pussy Power russian punk programme was mint. The pink panther jewel thief one on a non music note was great. Not a massive Floyd fan but enjoyed the Syd B disappearance doc.. What's the Salad one mate? Had ale last night, skip the Power of Salad one, it stuck in the mind from back in the day because i liked Lightning Bolt the band but watched 20 mins of it again last night and figured you'dve had to have been to be a fan. That Hawkwind one though, proper stand by that suggestion, Lemmy's story is full on funny. Storyville though..............that war photographer one, oh and the yank with chronic OCD who rode around Arab countries on a motorbike and ended up fighting against Gadaffi in the Lybian revolution. Thought the 'Salad' rung a bell. Yes 'sin' it. Nearly put them on at the Talbot in the cavernous upstairs room, but shit out at the cost {it was about £400 I recall}. Did see them, Custard Factory I think. Just noticed Rob Reiner, Anvil drummer has done one of those 'What's in me bag?' I'll look out for the Hawkwind.

Just finished reading through this thread a few days ago which inspired me to check out " rock family trees with John Peel" ...... the Black Sabbath story is a really enjoyable, funny, inspiring and sad watch all at the same time. Geezer Butler - what a drummer!!!!!!! Great viewing.

UB40 last night on BBC4....ouch. If you're going to split acrimoniously that's got to be near the benchmark.

Frank, great flick. Seen a really good Hawkwind one a while back and a good Storyville on Anvil which was like a real life Spinal Tap. Power of Salad sticks in the mind as well. Big fan of Storyville. There's a really good rap one, and that Pussy Power russian punk programme was mint. The pink panther jewel thief one on a non music note was great. Not a massive Floyd fan but enjoyed the Syd B disappearance doc.. What's the Salad one mate? Great Storyville about the Pink Panthers. Found that quite fascinating.

It was one of those 'truth stranger than fiction' ones for me. Storyville always leaves me with a momentary sense of disbelief, like they must be spoof. Stretch credulity. It's a mint series of documentaries.

I thought the Storyville on Kim Philby a few years back was exceptional. Always interesting and informative. BBC4 is moreorless the only channel I watch nowadays apart from MOTD.

Back & Forth by the Foo Fighters was a really good watch. I always enjoyed the Fleetwood Mac one too but I've got no idea what it's called. One of my all time favourites, Fleetwood Mac, exploding after an acid trip, going out for coffee and joining the Children of God and that's just the first ten minutes My favourite bit was Stevie Nicks grumbling about having to sing cutting lyrics written about herself.

BBC 4 is the dogs bollox for music docs. Probably wouldn't appeal to most on here but the Metal Evolution series was fantastic stuff. There was the Through the Never documentary on Metallica a few weeks ago. Enjoyed that.

I caught the hour long programme on Fleetwood Mac last night on BBC 4. Still as awesome as ever. Stevie Nicks sitting straight faced in front of the camera saying that she was having a relationship with Mick Fleetwood without the knowledge of Buckingham (they'd already split up) when she finds out that Fleetwood is shagging her best friend Sara....great song will follow

I was lucky enough to see them live in 1979 (Bingley Hall) I was only a young boy at the time, but still couldn’t take my eyes off Stevie Nicks...🙂 Check out (Fleetwood Mac - Mirage Tour - Live 1982)...Fantastic concert! Buckingham’s guitar playing is mesmerising.

I remember seeing this about Gene Vincent on BBC2 In the early 90s. It follows him on his 1969 UK tour and is an interesting watch. From the days when documentaries had no narration and the film itself told the story.

The Anvil story is quite touching ,a big average metal band with a decent legacy who've kept on keeping on, well worth a watch .
Lemmy The Movie was a well made documentary
Rush also has a good one, with some lovely interviews plus a scene with the three guys eating dinner and just talking and it's very moving, esp in light of Neil's passing last year .
Conversely Metallica's Some Kind of Monster was the final straw for me, a superb metal band reduced to parody. Still huge, still sell stadia but they've had my money for the last time.
Further to a lengthy thread on U2 year it two ago the appalling Rattle and Hum was my last straw with them, great band and blew it with that one. Never seen this thread before lol

Never seen this thread before lol It's a funny old world I played Rattle and Hum in it's entirety on the way over to Carsington Water yesterday. I don't think I would watch the video but I still love some of the rawness of the music. I do admit to skipping the moment Bono got on to his soapbox on Silver and Gold at the moment he emphasises "Apartheid"

I don't think they get any better than "Searching for the Sugar Man" Helps if you don't already know the story and you do have to pay for it on YT but it's well worth it.
