OK, well to see if this will cheer you up abit (well maybe?) after Stoke and the Ashes? I am slowly continuing my long journey after my stroke, but it is slow. Very slow. The updates I had mentioned in my previous posts are probably slow as it takes bloody ages to type anything – so sorry . So, my allotment did well, I got lots of potatoes, onions, tomatoes, etc. (yep, I can’t bloody remember them). Hopefully I should get a new shed shortly (thanks, Dad!). I am done volunteering to help myself chat with people. I can only understand a percentage with any chat with people (between 5% to 75%), but I will gradually improve I hope. Chatting to some of the OAPs can be really beneficial to them and me. I chat with a lady who is 102, while there is a 96 year old who drives, is getting a 70 year old, and drove a Lancaster in the war! I now have a bus pass – yep a forty year old bloke (thanks to epilepsy). I have just recently started reading short stories. Its very slow. Very slow, but I’m getting there. But as someone who hadn’t read fiction since the start of the ‘80s (I only read non-fiction), so it’s a bit of a change. I’m sure that there’s other things, but that’s because I can’t remember…err, “things”. My final things, talking with people helps me get better. I know I’m now crap (onhestly) at remembering things, but if any of you would like a chat on the phone then it would help me. I won’t get it all, but it will help me get a bit nearer, so if you want a chat would be brilliant! Just message me on the Oatcake . Several really generous Oatcakies (!?) have chatted to me already, and that is really good – THANK YOU. And really finally: GO ON STOKE! Jez its been a great day here up North. I've put my first earlies in. What are your plans? Thanks John! The allotment is doing well. Got my shed in there a couple of weeks ago, and I serous amount ready to start growing (but not much really properly doing much visible - except the garlic which is just incredible!). I'll give you a call:-)

Really appreciate that. A stroke is really shit but I've seen so, so many who have had is so much worse. Sadly there is very little interest, money and support for strokes, compared to heart attack and cancer. I read that 1 in 5 have a stroke, and that happens to all ages: just have a look at a quick video showing what I have (aphasia) after the stroke:

Thanks for posting the clip. I hope you're on the gradual mend. My last seizure was over 4 years ago now and hopefully the epilepsy has gone away for good. Is there a positive prognosis for you.

I never seem to get round to turning mine! Hi mate, yes a compost heap - but not really thought about last summer. Cucumber sounds a great idea, but at the moment I'm trying loads at my green house (most of which just don't work at all - but hear-ho). It does seem as though I am going to have silly amounts of onions and rhubarb and garlic! I am told that one of the ladies at the allotment took ten years to get carrots to grow...but I have some so far on my green house (which is a bit OTT for carrots I know).

Funnily enough Jez , I'm going to try carrots again this year, haven't done them for years. Got some old seed, don't know if they will work. I'll put some Runner beans in ( I always try to do that on May 1st...a bit of a tradition of my father in law) and I'm going to have a go with broad beans.

I too have an allotment and have derived considerable benefit from the exercise of cultivating it and eating home grown fruit and veg. However, I have just received a kidney transplant (two weeks ago) and have to avoid contact with soil for the time being! I grow basic stuff like spuds, peas, beans, strawberries but courgettes and sweet corn also do well on my soil. (Heavy clay, south Manchester)
