As far as I can remember a season review was never released. The below makes an attempt to pull together the story of the season and the 'lost goals'. A couple of games are missing and the footage is a bit grainy given how long ago it was (hard to believe it's going on twenty years since we left the Vic)
1996/97 was a comedown from the previous year when we reached the play-offs, but it had it's share of memorable moments:
- Ian Cranson going in goal on the opening day at Oldham after Prudhoe got injured - Beating Man City in our first home game of the season to the chants of 'Bally's on the dole' (which even the City fans applauded) - Arsene Wenger's first encounter with Stoke - we should've knocked them out of the Coca Cola Cup but for Ian Wright's late hand ball goal - Battering Swindon away only to lose to a Peter Thorne winner (a player Chic Bates no doubt kept tabs on) - Richard Forysth's long range goals at West Brom and home to Wolves - Graham Kavanagh's celebrations (climbing the fence away at Bolton + waving the corner flag at QPR) - The short lived Sheron & Stein forward line over the winter - The last Potteries derby at the Vic - Beating West Brom on the final day
