big john is my personal favourite followed by stein but if I were a reading fan I would hate with a passion hoekestra he played them on his own...

SJE. Oozed quality of a standard that was rarely seen for Stoke at that time His debut away at Derby was one of the best debut performances I'd seen. Ran the bloody show! And we won (unusual to win: 1) opening day of the season; 2) away; 3) at Derby!)

Plenty of those I would choose already mentioned, so won't duplicate. Really liked Pennant. Another one of the many reasons to deeply dislike Pulis really. Eh? Pulis can be blamed for many things. But Jermaine Pennant is to blame for the underachievement that he'll forever be associated with. If anything Pulis gave him the discipline to produce some of the best football of his career.

One I do miss from recent seasons is Odemwhingie. Always a smile on his face, reacted well with the fans and at his best exciting to watch.

Peter Hoekstra (don't know if been said already) - lovely technique, a wand of a left foot, and, when fit, injury free and in the mood (like his hat-trick day v Reading), almost unplayable.
As a kid, Chambo - the most exciting player I have ever seen live in a Stoke shirt (just edging out the Golden One by a smidgeon).

Vince Overson Stylish big lad, always felt confident of a clean sheet when he played. Used to like him getting forward as well and getting a few goals. To be fair he was helped by being part of the best back four the lower leagues ever saw at that time (Butler, Sandford, Cranson etc) -just went about their business grinding out results. Great captain as well If you weren't performing you had Vinnie to answer to and he took no crap A truly proper captain.

Mark Chamberlain, best player I ever saw (albeit briefly), and I've seen a lot of players. Also Pejic he was a prince amongst full backs

Brendan O'Callaghan. The only other player I've ever seen who had that weird ability to hang in the air was Les Ferdinand Oh and Iron Man.

Was that really Dave Brammer megging the full back and leaving him for dead before putting in an absolute peach of a cross?! I presume whoever the full back was retired after the match.

Mark Chamberlain was a very exciting player to watch. He only had a brief period with us at his very best but when, on form, he was unstoppable.

Gerry Taggart was magnificent in his brief spell. He read the game so well and was hard. I remember he grabbed a player by the throat on the floor (was it Barton?).
