Does anyone watch this?? I think there a new series starting soon
Almost every woman I know seems obessed with Aidan Turner and (usually as an afterword) say its a really good historical drama
I must admit I liked The Patriot with Mel Gibson, think it was set in same time frame although obviously across the pond. Then again there was plenty of action in it, is this Poldark got a bit of blood & thunder to it or is it just another limp costume drama with a heartthrob???

Can't help. Got an in built aversion to most costume / dressing up stuff. There's exceptions to every rule of course but I'll be steering clear of this.

Richard Harris is like a force of nature in it. Should have won an Oscar for it
Oh for another Cromwell to lead this country, and I say this as a part Irishman LOL

Cromwells right hand man was a Deane. Lord Mayor of London and signatory on Charles 1 death warrant. On my mother's side from Norton le moors. A regicide. Paid the ultimate price though.

Didn't Charles II have Cromwell's body dug up??
I think the punishments were particularly harsh weren't they for regicide?? Hung, Drawn & Quartered??

I didn't watch the first series until halfway through & then I got 'the bug'. I couldn't help but get drawn into it. There is the romantic side to it yes, but I like the character developments plus you can't guess what's going to happen next (unless you've read the books of course).

my wife is very keen on this, and as it gets her in the mood I'm happy to play along... plus I find Cornwall is best watched on tv during the summer, rather than actually attempting to drive there.

Yes, and the location of his head is still a matter of some debate. It was removed from the spike it was placed on one night, probably by Parliamentarian sympathisers. and taken to / buried at an unknown location. Some people blamed Oxford students, and it is alledged that the head is buried somewhere within the gardens of one of the colleges. Beats nicking traffic cones anyway. I knew he would get off all the charges tonight, but not the best episode - little scything or hewing action.

I've just read a Telegraph article explaining that Heida Reed & Aidan Turner argued to cut a scene that's in the 3rd book. Ross rapes Elizabeth & she then becomes pregnant with his child On a side note, the Cornwall scenery looks amazing. So good in fact I'm seriously thinking of going on my jollies there next year.

Good period drama based on a well written series of books by Winston Graham , the original 1970's series starring Robin Ellis was pretty good as well ( Robin Ellis has a cameo role in the new show as the judge in the court scenes ) .

Aidan Turner is now the new favourite to be 007 , should Daniel Craig choose not to continue in the role ( I should think £ 135 million for two films would persuade him to carry on ! )

True. I was initially hooked on it (the original series) because Robin Ellis was extremely 'phwoar' but apart from that minor (like 'ell) point it was very enjoyable anyway. When the remake first started I bought the original 1970s series as a boxed set and really enjoyed it again. Tried to watch the remake, but only watched the first episode of the first series and couldn't really get into it so I didn't bother after that..... but I recorded it so might have another go at it at some point. I really can't take to the new Poldark chap, Aidan Wotsisface, at all - much too scrawny. The original 1970s series really was a classic, though, like The Forsyte Saga, which was on the TV on Sunday evenings in the late 1960s and was massively popular at the time.

Clive Owen would be better. Or, even better still, James Norton, the blond actor who was the bad guy in 'Happy Valley' - he was also in the recently-televised War and Peace. Now you're talkin'!
