Be a great signing if it happens though I'm still not sure how we'd look at playing him Allen / Whelan with imbula advanced Allen / Imbula Allen / Imbula / Whelan in a 3. Allen and Whelan with Imbula on the bench. Our record signing hasn't done enough for me. Bar score some top quality goals and a few man of the match performances just what has he done...? Meanwhile Glenn Whelan is still hoping to make a forward pass this coming season.. This is the one Glenn, THIS IS THE ONE son. |

He will definatley play the 30m worth of midfield. And we definatley need bojan in for the attacking threat. Whelan will offer a good option if we are winning and just need to control the game and change to a midfield 3.

Allen and Imbula re the lesser sides where we're going out to win with Bojan in front of them.
then when we're playing the top sides Whelan and Allen with Imbula just in front.

I try not to as a rule Paul, they're rarely of much value. The 'least interceptions' stuff could be a worry. Most of the comments seem to be the standard complaints of fans who don't understand defensive midfielders - people who moan about 'passing sideways' etc. |

Last year of a contract seems to mean jack shit unless said player plays for Stoke then fees are halved and if said play is trying to be signed for Stoke then fees must be doubled. I just don't get this last year of a contract nonsense. If you want a certain player he's worth what you think he's worth. If Messi had 12 months left would you get him for a lot less? No. You'd still pay premium.
If Allen has 12 months left he's worth £13m? How much is he worth the day after you put him on a 5 year contract?

If Allen and Imbula played together as centre mids we would get completely overrun. I agree Imbula was on fire for his first few games but after that he was very average. He has no idea what is going on around him and does not work hard enough defensively. Allen as the only defensive midfielder would be a nightmare. Hopefully a full pre season will have done Imbula a power of good. I'll wait until I see him to pass judgement but going on what I know Whelan has to start. |
