There is so much against this it's barely worth considering -
1.Everton fans absolutely don't want him. He doesn't match their lofty opinions of their club. 2. This bigger club stuff is so out of date it's untrue - their financial resources are no greater than ours ( new shareholder - so what, I doubt he can or is going to invest any more than the Coates family) and the fact that they play in front of 10,000 or so more people isn't going to be that much of a thrill for any right thinking manager. Fundamentally if Hughes were to take the job on he would just be putting himself in the firing line with little or no more chance of success than he has here.
So basically Hughes is plan X,Y, or Z for his potential employers and is taking on a proven thankless task. If does get offered it and he did take it frankly we would be better off without him because his thinking would shown to be seriously flawed.

Although wuzza I can't back this up with hard facts my gut feeling is that Everton are perceived as a bigger club than Stoke by the majority of neutral fans, managers and players. Financially there may not be much difference but in terms of history (even recent), support and future potential they probably have the edge over Stoke. Of course things can change quite quickly in football and we now see two huge clubs like Villa and Newcastle in the Championship and clubs like Bournemouth and Watford in the PL.

If he's got any sense he wouldn't go there, the fans will be against him from the start. Everton fans have the big club syndrome, despite not doing anything for years.

The Everton fan on TV last night thought they should be going for Mourinho so doubt they'd be very happy with Hughes

Just because Everton think they are a bigger club than Stoke doesn't mean they are...not anymore. Hughes has got a great Chairman who backs him and he won't get better jumping ship. He is intelligent enough to know he has as much chance of success at Stoke as at Everton. What measures are you using for that? Everton are a much bigger club than Stoke ever will be, unfortunately.

If they are such a big club why were they up for sales year on year out and no takers. They may have been perceived as a bigger club years back but not anymore.if anything they are roughly on a par.

Otherwise Man City are bigger than Man United. And they aren't.

Of course rawli I'm not suggesting Bournemouth or Watford are bigger than Newcastle or Villa, just that support/finance/history doesn't always result in those clubs being run better.

There is a reason behind that Geoffrey. Everton are a much bigger club than we are and always will be. I really can't see Hughes being a realistic target for that job. For all the great work he has done here I'm not sure he's a good enough manager to take a club like Everton where they want to be.

Football is ruthless. Stoke would sack him in October if it all went pear shaped. That's football.
And that is why he won't come out and say no. Just the usual "I'm flattered and no comment" bog standard comments.
You can understand it really

Maybe there are some truths in the rumour and our players caught wind of it before our collapse in form Maybe arnie is holding hands with Hughes Maybe I'm totally fucking cuckoo Maybe you're not. Our collapse in form has gone further than injuries in my opinion. I've had a sneaky feeling that something has been in the offing for a while way before our collapse, because of the amount of times David Moyes has been watching us. Then the collapse came and it's sent my paranoia into overdrive.

I think a lot of you fail to give Hughes the credit he deserves. He's said multiple times that he's learned from his past mistakes and he's keen on being at Stoke for a long time. I strongly believe he'll stay true to his word.

Hughes will not leave Stoke to go to Everton. It's a sideways move both for him & the club. Plus Everton fans think they're in the same league as the likes of Chelsea & Man City so considering that Hughes has never really won anything, it's an unlikely move.

Mark Hughes has never won anything, that's what may prevent him landing a bigger job. Martinez got the Everton job on the back of the F.A.Cup final win despite taking Wigan down. dead on mate there, banged on about this for years years now,and looks likely none in the near future neither.

So who are you expecting to roll into town with a CV full of trophies to his name? Mourinho? Ancellotti? Ferguson? As Geoff pointed out, Martinez won the FA Cup, would you want him? Alex McCleish and Michael Laudrup won the League Cup, would you want them?

There are three tiers in the league.
Those hoping for top 4 (about 6 or 7 teams) Those hoping for top half maybe Europa (another 6 teams) Those hoping to stay up
The manergerial appointments usually reflect this.

Personally I can't see any team 'at the next level' ever being interested in Hughes. I don't think Everton are a level above us at the moment, but potentially, with their new ground, they would be. Historically they have always been a bigger club.
