What credentials did Greg Dyke have to land the job he has now, serious question. Does anybody know? Chairman of Brentford FC for several years immediately prior to becoming FA Chair; one time Board member of Man Utd; extensive executive and non-executive experience of large public and private organisations. The FA chair has to be independent, i.e not involved directly in any football organisation. I would say his CV was pretty strong for the role. Didn't know that - you'd imagine with that CV he would be very clued up.

Way back in the early 1960's the FA cup final was always played on the first Saturday in May with a 3 p.m. kick off. The first Saturday in May was also the date when the outdoor Devizes swimming pool opened for the summer season at 2 p.m. I used to dash to the pool when it opened and buy my season ticket and have a quick swim in the cold water before rushing home for the start of the cup final on our black and white TV.
Happy memories !

According to the Times Dyke has defended the kick off time of the cup final at 5.30, stating that maximising TV audience is more important than tradition.....says the ex head of BBC and Channel 5. Be glad when he fecks off. The only good thing about a 5.30 kick off is that if it goes to extra time there will be shedloads of shit fans kipping on Euston Station. It's not as simple as that. Because of the much larger TV audiences at the later kick-off time, the value of the TV rights to the FA is much greater with a later kick-off. Unlike the Premier League, where the TV money goes to privately-owned clubs, the FA is a not for profit organisation which uses it's money to develop football at all levels. There is of course a debate as to whether it has the correct priorities on that, but I'm quite sure that the FA Board's motivation on the kick-off time has nothing to do with Greg Dyke's previous career, and everything to do with maximising income for the development of the game. I would be most surprised if his successor tries to alter it. Much though many of us of my generation would love Cup Final day to return to what it once was, unfortunately we live in a different world now. that's all well and good Malcom IF they use the money for development of the game! is that what they'll actually do though or will they do what they've done for years now i.e. pay shit loads of money to Independent experts to look into how to improve the English game and then completely, 100% ignore their advice of starting from scratch re: grass roots levels just so Greg can come up with ideas like forming break away leagues, English league games being played abroad and Premiership "B-sides" playing in cup competitions to "Help" lower league clubs get knocked out earlier?

I quickly found a link to an item on the new strategy from last August www.thefa.com/news/2015/aug/national-game-strategy-2015-2019-launchI'm sure you can find more information with a little googling, look up the park life project, which is the name given to the new city football hubs. The England Commission did come up with the 'B' teams idea, which got very little support, but Greg Dyke has not, to the best of my knowledge, supported break away leagues ( whatever that means) or english league games being played abroad.

I know it's a shame to let the truth get in the way of a good tabloid slagging, but he never wore the watch which was auctioned off for charity and I'm quite sure he hadn't got a clue that it was worth anything like that much.

TV money is the punter, Football is the whore and Dyke is the pimp. Malcolm appears to be the PR agency x GD

TV money is the punter, Football is the whore and Dyke is the pimp. Malcolm appears to be the PR agency x GD Some truth in that analogy but much more true of the PL than the FA. I am realistic about Greg Dyke's strengths and weaknesses having seen him operate at relatively close quarters on the FA Council. I think Joe got it pretty right higher up. But I have never seen any value in not telling fans how I see things just because it might not be the populist view, and I think some of the stuff above ( that which is not just personal abuse) is probably based on (understandable) ignorance. In my view Greg Dyke has been amongst the least of our problems in English football.

Among the great scandals of football, it's well down my list.

At lot of lads on here will remember this. Switching the tele on (BBC 1)and settling down for 7 or so hours, moving only to go to the toilet! ( No younger fans, we didn't have a pause button!) The cameras on the team buses, special "It's a Knockout" and even on ITV you had Dickie Davies and Freddie Starr causing mayhem! Best of all a 3 o' clock kick off!!!! Brilliant professional coverage! Ah, the good old days. Yep. If you didn't like the commentator on BBC you could switch to ITV. Them's were the days.
