An interesting watch at the moment is the live action from the dyfi osprey live web cam. The Osprey project has is set up in the Dovey estuary just west of Machynlleth. The Ospreys return every year and judging by this mornings quick look eggs have hatched. It's easily seen from the Cambrian railway and Network Rail support their efforts. Guards on the service get on the intercom and point out the details when trains go by. Don't know how to do the link thing but it's dyfiospreyproject to get you there.

We've had a couple of bats flying around the gardens this week, get them every year, they are great silhouetted against the setting sun skyline. Plenty of butterflies, bees and all buzzy things about, even saw a big green caterpillar yesterday They're not so good when you suddenly get one zapping about in the sitting-room, though, Northy..... I've never done so much screamin' in me life....

Feeding the birds! - Haven't had this for a while.... I already get small suet pellets - some have chopped mealworms in them, and some have berries, etc. - for this lot round 'ere, and they love them. Anyway, these new Suet Fat Balls look good and they have some really excellent feedback, plus a charming short film a customer has sent in showing them being devoured by various birds in her garden, so I've ordered some and will see how popular they are when they get here. I was wondering if anyone else might be interested: Peckish Natural Balance Energy Suet Fat Balls for Wild Birds, 50 Tub £8.99www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B073ZPBTV3/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1
Right, time for an update, and these new treats are going down a STORM! Even from the very first day they went up outside, in three new fatball hangers (tall metal cylindrical hangers with 1" square holes - y'know the sort) ALL the little dears have been going berserk for them and have already finished half the big tub, which is about to be replaced. FAO Dees: I'm sure your lot will love these, too, Dees. Gooooarn - give 'em a go! These are the hangers I'm using, which you can also get (s'prise s'prise) on Az: www.petthings.co.uk/henry-bell-wild-bird-essentials-plus-fat-ball-feeder.html

First humming bird of the year for me yesterday.
We went from nought to summer in a day and a half. Popped the feeder out end of last week and she showed up yesterday. Checked the feeder in a slow drive by. Checked me sitting five feet away, then zoomed over the block to the big trees there. As I was sitting in the evening the same beautiful little girl showed up again and had a really good look around, so, she now knows we’re here.
I had had Blue Jays at other house but this is my first here (12 years) Also, for the first year ever, in all my time in the States, I have seen bluebirds in my yard.

As I start this, please do not get me wrong, unlike many, I am in no way anti squirrel, buuut If I put any suet product out it’s bad. These look like every every squirrel in the zip code would be on it. There would be one, older, squirrel at the front...handing out the numbers, and a raggedy line of non socially distancing squirrels waiting for a go... Thats, of course, if the flock of a thousand starlings doesn’t get there first.

Also had one in the kitchen when we were younger, it flew into the coal fired central heating unit that stood in the corner never to be seen again.

The Hummingbird Hawkmoth is the nearest thing we've got here. I've had them in the garden now for the last two years fabulous creatures to watch and surprisingly large.

That's very strange, was just going to say the same after reading marylandstokies post. I saw a few at Snowshill Manor a few years ago, never seen anything like it, never seen one since, very impressive things.

I told you all about my blue headed skink last year. I was out late afternoon and saw, what looked like a red headed skink heading under the car. Not knowing if this was possible I did my due Googlance and found this picture “Red headed Skink in Calvert County” Attachment DeletedSo I’m taking it.

Lovely, I stopped for a few minutes in the woods at Marbury park on my early run this morning, just stood listening to the birds and looking over Budworth mere, so peaceful and calming. Blue green algae in the water now so keeping a lot of dog walkers away from the water

It was on the Red Valerian which is a big favourite of theirs. It grows wild and I used to get rid before I saw this beast feasting on it

One of many local residents enjoying the warm conditions yesterday. Aberystwyth in the background. Strewth! Chuff, that large bird that was following you and then landed up high on the lamppost where it could watch you…… Were you out for a run? Don't want to worry you, but it's a vulture. Must've mistaken you for Fel……..

They're very easy to maintain - just cut them down to about halfway (or more if you like) at about Easter-time every year. We've got quite a few buddleias & they seem to self-seed quite easily. If I find a baby buddleia that's grown itself I dig it up and pot it up until I can find somewhere suitable for it - ssssssh, but I've planted a few in the countryside in the past, in a spot where they would fit in well. Everyone probably knows that butterflies love buddleias, hence the unofficial name for the plant being 'Butterfly Bush', and this is why I grow them - it's amazing to see them covered in butterflies, and one afternoon a couple of years ago we saw at least 20 Peacock butterflies on one of them - it was an amazing sight.
