I'm among other things a 70ies rock guy myself, bands like Bachman-Turner-Overdrive, Black Sabbath, Nazareth and more. Hard rock so to say. Bands in the beginning, before what later in the genre became known as heavy metal. Three album suggestions, if someone has missed Bachman-Turner-Overdrive "Not fragile" Black Sabbath "Sabotage" Nazareth "Razamanaz"

An essential listen. Not sure what genre you'd call it, I guess it's Progressive Technical Death Metal, much in the same way as Opeth were, but I'd say it's better personally. The entire album is strong, certainly nothing that I'd label as skippable that's for sure.

Going Aftershock Festival in 2 weeks, can't wait. Any recommendations for the smaller bands on the list? There are loads I don't know.

Disappointed with the new Sylosis album. (apart from 'Absent' which is super)

S-tier sets were Avatar, Parkway Drive, The Hu and Billy Talent.
Missed most of Sleep Token because of a clash but everyone I heard was raving about them.
Lots of other good performers sprinkled with some disappointments.

Not quite my thing generally, I was more emo/hardcore/post-punk but fuck me they were amazing live. Unbelievably energetic and tight, drummer incredible. Wouldn’t have a clue if it’s the same lineup or what they’re like now

Guns n Roses new single 'The General'
Rare I say this about newer music, but I rather like it. Feels like it actually should have come out with Chinese democracy, when it was written.

Personally can't wait for whatever follows. Good young band so should have plenty of time to establish themselves.

I think that 'good' heavy metal is dying a death, so hearing a decent new band is good Spot on - me and my metal loving bro often lament where the next generation of mainstream metal bands - capable of headlining Download say - are emerging from and the sad fact is they’re not - well not in the same way as we saw it in the 70s and 80s - whilst Metallica, Maiden and the like can still fill stadiums I can’t see any of the emerging talent ever gaining that same mass appeal - although this is not necessarily a bad thing as we love the small venue experience but there is a huge gap in the middle - so the Viccy Hall, Trentham Gardens and Bingley Hall sized venues - I think a lot is down to streaming and online access to everything and anything that has not only diluted the pool but exacerbated the decline of the album, tour and music press experience which the 70s and 80s revolved around and probably what we are most nostalgic about.
