Whatever else, it's surely time to bin off the high defensive line, which is absolutely Laurel and Hardying us.

Brian Clough said football is simple, you pass the ball from the back to the front and score, you defend from the front to the back and stop the other side scoring.Basic football get the ball forward so not to give the oppersition time to set up,not side to side then finding out the one man you have up front has no space because we were so slow moving the ball.

I love how simple football is according to the oatcake.
All we need is (insert cliché here).
Fair enough we are short in a few areas but so many factors have contributed to the way the season has panned out that to think we just need pace or to copy another team is superficial.
We've not been bad all season. A crap end shouldn't override the glimpses of potential we've seen.

Pulis at his best was the "new" high tempo hard pressing game. Everyone thought he was a dinosaur though. Defending from the front etc etc Barcelona and Spain were the magical example that we were all told to follow - playing the right way blah blah. We just need to up the ante and urgency within our own tactics. The pondorous and slow ball is what's wrong with our own system. Get all the players on speed and we'll be champs this time next year!! Perfect football for me, was the Boxing Day game at the Brit against Liverpool where Gerrard scored an early penalty and we went on to win 3-1 I think. Incredible football. Yeah, it was a great performance - perhaps the only one that season - but it was nowhere near the best performance under Pulis and certainly doesn't compare to 6-1 against Liverpool, 3-0 against Spurs, 3-2 against Arsenal or 2-0 against Man City.

Yeah it was...What a shame he then shat his pants at the standard he'd set, never picked that side again and by mid April we had only won one more game and were making a late bid for the championship!

Football has changed enormously since Clough was in his pomp. It's faster. It's more tactical. You can't go on the piss the night before a game and rock up and win 4-0 the next day at the highest level. Football is NOT a simple game in 2016.

Yeah I remember the game well. The daft Scousers set off a smoke bomb and before it had died out, Stoke had equalised. One of the best games I've seen us play too Never forget that game , our forwards never gave the scousers a minutes peace all game . Walters , ethers , pennant were like yapping dogs at the Liverpool defenders

This squad has shown plenty of spirit over the past three seasons, but a few poor performances and it's instantly forgotten. A goldfish has a longer memory than some of our fans.

How many do you call a few,or to make it easy how many home games this season have you come out side after and you were still buzzing about the performance,I would say 3 , 4 at a push.

Does Hughes actually know what tactics are?. Yes have three forwards sitting on the bench, two of which he brought into the club, then play a false No9 against a team with a back four and midfield that were put under no pressure.

If you read my thread I also mentioned the crowd. I don't care about the crowd. Well the reaction of the crowd usually tells you if they were happy with the performance, not the result as you can play well and lose,so how many home games have you left season happy, you do attend live games I presume.

Why,for some reason, are folk point blank refusing to see beyond the last two poor performances and defeats ? Are the previous 32 games of total irrelevance or is it only the ones we lose that matter ??

We need to improve set pieces, we have been shocking from corners the past few seasons and we need to cut out the pointless backwards passes. A top striker and a hard bastard defender in the summer and we should be good
