Never realised that Roberta Flack was not the original. Yes indeed. I saw a documentary about Don McLean (the American Pie man) where McLean backed up the story that Lori Lieberman actually wrote some of the lyrics that inspired the song on a napkin while watching a McLean gig, and that she was never given the songwriting credit for it that she deserved.

Love the trumpet solo on the second half of that. Always thought it sounded just like Herb Alpert- and then one day I found out it actually IS Herb Alpert!

Only issue with this track is it had to end, nothing else like the dead in the groove Wow, that was great. Thought I'd give it a couple of minutes, was transfixed to the screen for the full 10 minutes, and then the video suddenly ended whilst they were carrying on! I'd only ever heard Dylan & The Dead before, but further exploration is clearly required! If you have 30 minutes give this a go. The real star is the camera man, how the heck did he pull this off side stage in '88? 'Every once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right'

Just a normal day in the life of The Oatcake Running Club: 😉 Well if we're doing running songs this title makes me snigger every time "The future's looking colourful . It's the colour of blood, chaos and corruption of a happy soul"

great piano on this track too, it must be the guy who played the piano on Aladdin Sane - I remember i was disappointed (!) when i learnt it wasn't Bowie playing that wonderful avant garde solo Mike Garson is your man. I saw him playing with Bowie at the Liverpool Empire in June 1973. I think it was still called the Ziggy Stardust tour, but by then the Aladdin Sane LP had come out, so the set featured a good number of songs from the new LP. Even though it was a seated venue, you were allowed to run down and stand at the front by the stage. To this day I can see Garson playing that piano solo right in front of me, it was quite extraordinary, I've seen nothing like it before or since. This was only the second or third pop concert I'd ever seen. I was 13 at the time and the ticket cost £1.65. I remember this because I'd seen Elton John a few weeks before, that cost £1.50 and I wondered why Bowie was more expensive! thanks for sharing, stories like that make the Oatie a great site , wish i'd have been there I found this - might be of interest .. indieethos.wordpress.com/2013/04/20/40-years-later-mike-garson-recalls-what-it-was-like-to-record-aladdin-sane-with-david-bowie/
