After so many wonderful records, I actually think this latest album, which a Perfect Miracle is taken from, is his best, every track on it is a corker. We went over to Amsterdam when he toured it, unfortunately this is the only footage I took, so nothing from the new album ...

So as it was supposed to be the Saturday night at the 50th Glastonbury celebrations this evening, I was wondering, if the Oatcake What Are You Listening To Now crowd had a chance to curate their own stage at the festival, what the Saturday line up might end up looking like? Maybe a little pretentious I don't know but having had a little look back through the thread at those artists who seem to make regular appearances on here, I thought it might end up looking a bit like this, we'd obviously have to find a damn fine Elvis tribute act from somewhere and assuming that the rest are all actually still alive ... First on: Nice, perhaps kick off with a warm up Khruangbin... I reckon the claustrophobia would strike and after B&S I'd nip off to the World Stage for Tinariwen then Lee Scrath Perry.....Definitely sounds like a plan! Glastonbury stalwarts Black Uhuru in 1982, the first time that they played ... I was down there at the front, very stoned and very wet!

Have we done this?
Richard Thompson, with Suazanne Vega and Loudon Wainwright next to the maestro thinking 'shit, its our turn next'!

Great stuff.. spreading the goodness, hobby or rep?Global Groove, Pete Bromley etc, nice bloke, he's a local mate. He was instrumental in getting loads of my mates into dance, he used to do tapes out of Freetown for the holiday returnees... All that piano stuff etc.... I lived in Bournemouth when the two Junior Boys 12" were released. I saw them djing in a pub basement in the Smoke, the Green Dragon or somesuch... An eclectic time for new musical discoveries, the south coast was a fertile ground for crate digging.. There was the Bournemouth Hospital radio charity shop which was stuffed with promos, stuff out of their library, I picked up early Clear Records/Herbert/Wishmountain promos in there, and all the early Cypress Hill cds...{too much swearing for Hosp Radio play perhaps...} There was a small dance shop that stocked the early Mo' Wax 12"s etc..at a time when the Can catalogue was re issued made accessible, they opened that rabbit hole... a great shop... The Dust Brothers' ouvre stand as a beacon/benchmark...Trip Hop becoming Big Beat. Quality, still solid.. I feel a tinge of guilt that I took my youngest brother to Sheff in about 96, his first gig, Chemical Brothers.. he's never been quite the same since... Rep, I carried it exclusively. I carried all the early Mo' Wax stuff too, right from when they first started. I used to promote a club night in Warrington and I had the Chem's on at the opening night, along with Carl Cox, Derick Carter and Ashley Beedle, you'd need an arena to stage that line up nowadays! I've been friends with Pete Bromley for over 30 years, the Freetown nights were, cough ... legendary! Ace stuff... have I missed an obvious year ref.. I saw Daft Punk at the S'mill and all sorts at the KU Kube around the mid/late nineties... would have liked the Carl Craig particularly then... Great curating. Nice to see our Kelvin featuring... Used to... well.... this was a phunnyish phaze.... Straight outta Yarnfield...

Those dates on that flyer are from 1996, we installed exactly the same Thunder Ridge sound system that they had in the End in London. The first time we tested it, Kelvin stuck on Firestarter and I stood in the middle of the dance floor, when the sub bass kicked in, it literally made my hair move as the sound wave crossed across the room and we both in unison, turned to the installation engineers and said ... "yes, that'll do"! Kelvin and I used to live together at the farm for a few years ... hence where the name for the club night came from and for the single release.

I've tour managed several bands there and have always been treated fantastically and have been there as a punter loads of times. The word 'iconic' gets banded about too easily but in this case, you are absolutely right, the building itself, the acoustic, the way it's managed, the vibe ... it just something very, very special.

Townes van Zandt, the greatest story teller ever, I got to see him for real before he died way too young, you just want to step in the set!
