This is what is so great about this thread ... until only a few minutes ago, I didn't know that this version even existed. I had previously only been aware of the Walker Brothers song, which I had always thought was the only version (which is of course magnificent) and now you're suddenly making me aware, that that belief was not only wrong but that the Everly's version is actually the first interpretation and having just listened to it a couple of times back to back, I'm now wondering is it indeed actually better than the one I've always loved and thought was the original?! Jeez ...

Jeez ... yep, the walker brothers led me to hunt down this version and i think you're right, it is at least on par, if not better than the WB later effort, the production and those harmonies are superb.

Listening to Titanic Rising by Weyes Blood at the minute. Topped Uncut mag albums of the year....Lana was 5th Paul 😉. More folky and baroque than Lana but you'll love it. Blimey this thread moves on at a pace, it's hard to keep up! So then, Weyes Blood ... never even heard of her before, until your post Mike. Just had a listen to "A Lot's Gonna Change", first impression ... good god, doesn't she sound like Karen Carpenter? But I suppose I'm not the first person to make that observation! Strange thing is, even the drumming, sounds like Karen Carpenter's. Will check out the rest of the album later, going to work my way through the rest of this thread and then come back to it a bit.

Some years back there was a radio discussion on Slipknot as to whether the band were inciting acts of violence. I remember some guy phoned in to put the counterpoint to the outrage. He said something like " I'm a computer engineer, I've got a well paid job, a house, I'm happily married with 2.4 children and when I get home after a hard day in the office there's nothing better than listening to Slipknot. Now, if you made me listen to any more than 3 minutes of Celine Dion, I'd take the axe out of the garage and be down the High Street in seconds" People that say music can influence why they commit crime are either a bit special or very very weak minded.

Love Jason Isabell. Saw him live a few years ago and he was great. Re. Weyes Blood, she supported Father John when I saw him in Cardiff in 2017. Didn't pay that much attention to her queuing up at the bar but she's moved her songwriting and production up a few notches.

How does Ronnie Scott's in Birmingham compare to Soho? I have not been to either but intend to go to the London one next year. I think that you are dead right about ambience and acoustics making a great difference in performances.....I don't like big arenas....next Monday I'm seeing the King at the MEN , he's come back to life for a quick tour

Seen him three times now and agree with all you say. I even saw him drumming with Fleet Foxes back in the day!
