I think she's incredible. Who are the truly great pop/rock female songwriters of all time ... Joni Mitchell/Carole King/Patti Smith/Kate Bush/Madonna? How many classic songs have they ever written? 10 maybe 20 each at the very most but here we have somebody writing at Lennon & Mccartney/Paul Simon levels who has nailed, what 40 or 50 classics already and she's only been recording for seven years! What get's me is how incredibly consistent she is. So many albums get weaker as they progress but her records are consistently brilliant right to the very end ... if you took (say) Blue, Tapestry, Easter, Hounds of Love and Remain in Light and then any of the follow up albums to those records began with the last six tracks of Lana's latest album, then the critics would have been raving about the follow up to those classic albums.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d393ZF2AaCs We're into Whiter Shade of Pale territory here ... Good grief Paul, that's a hell of an assertion to make and fair play to you. I don't know that much of her work to be honest as after her debut she went off my radar. I'm a massive Joni Mitchell fan and think she's head and shoulders above every other female songwriter (not to mention most blokes), but LDR is certainly original, but in my view, as I said previously, she's difficult to categorise for the rock audience at large. I'm as guilty as most in that I've overlooked her for all of this time, but she will now get more attention from me!!! Your far too kind.... we both know she's not a patch on Aimee Mann

Aimee Mann! Now there's a true artist. Seen her 5 times and the last time a few years ago at the Palladium. There are so many songs, but this clip is from one of my favourite films and is the whole scene with the song. Stunning. Love her. Lana Del Who, Paul?

I don't think there's such a thing as a poor Aimee Mann album. So many fabulous tracks over the years, I love the bittersweet lyrics on You Do.

She's great and her last album was excellent. I saw her in a small venue in Bristol back in '94, and she has always been nothing less than brillaint live.

Love the last album as with all the rest* I put the Poor Judge track up a few months back. The live version of Goose Snow Cone on Later Live is just about the best thing I can ever remember hearing on there. *The Xmas album, One more drifter in the snow wasn't that great

I may have posted this before but wtf... that triumvirate of Satriani's guitar, Potter's voice and some of the most orgasmic trumpet you will ever hear, makes this one of my all time 'go to' videos late at night.
