There's only one thing anyone can be listening to at the moment, Tool's new album, Fear Inoculum. (If that link is done right it should take you to the full album playlist on their official Youtube page.)

On repeat since the weekend ... That's interesting Paul because Pitchfork give it a great review and I was going to listen to it myself asap. I came back from End of the Road Festival in Dorset a few days ago and whilst it wasn't as good as it has been, astounding sets by Low and Deerhunter made up for it and some friends of mine have a son who plays in new band Squid who were great. I saw someone in an old Stoke shirt while there and approached him to shake his hand. As he turned around, he said: JimmyG!! Underneath the face fuzz and a decade's wear and tear, I realised it was Pricey! It was lovely to see him and have a chat.

On repeat since the weekend ... I'll give this a listen. Freya Ridings was on Radio 2 earlier waxing lyrical about Video Games pointing out that on every level it was ahead of the curve.

Ha ha Pricey ... that's a blast from the past Mike, I wonder if he's still playing poker? After the disappointment of the last album, I think Norman Fuckin Rockwell sees her totally back on form, I'm actually wondering if it's her best album to date, need to give it a few more listens. Looking forward to seeing her in Manchester next Feb.

Played some of it coming into work this morning. Like it so far...Venice Bitch is a bit of an epic. I've sort of sidestepped her in the past for no apparent reason and I think she does fall between a few stools. Her pop is very arch and knowing but still listenable enough to get Radio 2 airplay but 6 Music don't really take to her. Her voice is great though and her lyrics excellent. I'll give it a good go and come back.
As for Pricey, he's still down in Falmouth and working for a domestic abuse charity. It was nice to see him and talk about the old days. Without him there would have been no Oatcake Occasionals.

Without him there would have been no Oatcake Occasionals. I think she's incredible. Who are the truly great pop/rock female songwriters of all time ... Joni Mitchell/Carole King/Patti Smith/Kate Bush/Madonna? How many classic songs have they ever written? 10 maybe 20 each at the very most but here we have somebody writing at Lennon & Mccartney/Paul Simon levels who has nailed, what 40 or 50 classics already and she's only been recording for seven years! What get's me is how incredibly consistent she is. So many albums get weaker as they progress but her records are consistently brilliant right to the very end ... if you took (say) Blue, Tapestry, Easter, Hounds of Love and Ray of Light and then any of the follow up albums to those records began with the last six tracks of Lana's latest album, then the critics would have been raving about the follow up to those classic albums.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d393ZF2AaCs We're into Whiter Shade of Pale territory here ...

Good grief Paul, that's a hell of an assertion to make and fair play to you. I don't know that much of her work to be honest as after her debut she went off my radar. I'm a massive Joni Mitchell fan and think she's head and shoulders above every other female songwriter (not to mention most blokes), but LDR is certainly original, but in my view, as I said previously, she's difficult to categorise for the rock audience at large. I'm as guilty as most in that I've overlooked her for all of this time, but she will now get more attention from me!!!
