I prefer Roger's version but Elvis does a good job, particularly considering that he was American.

I've decided to start a peaceful protest movement: 'Shouting In Libraries.'
Dual purpose: 1.The neglect of our libraries is a travesty, akin to 'burning of books'. 2.A message to officialdom that our voices should be heard.
Plan is to get groups to attend libraries at co-ordinated times.. loan out books {thus supporting the library and symbolic of taking back power, knowledge is power} before leaving congregate and shout, sing choral and barbershop versions of protest songs and leave. The more radical may breach the book return date. I'm kick starting it at my local mobile library early next week.

The swagger of Suede at full tilt: 'Head Music'. Put on a fine live show in their pomp. Rock, rock, rocked Viccy Hall mid nineties. 20+ years ago... shit!

Fantastic, and a brilliant album. And as ever I play catch up with Bowie.. Always a decade or so behind Bowie. Ambivalence turns to appreciation. Havn't got fully inside Inside No9 yet. And only heard bits of Blackstar. That yet to come.

Del Amitri are quality Dees. In my youth some saturdays I cycled from Fair Gaze to Longton for a tiny record shop above Burtons, in that area I think. {Pretty sure it wasn't Bevans}. They had rows of obscure new releases 7" singles mainly, some promos, some must have been imports or somesuch with the corners snipped of the sleev es. By the by, I raided monthly, rucksack. And I bought several very early Del Amitri singles {v. cheapo} on spec, mainly because of the interesting cover art initially, and their first album. I was hooked... brilliant. Hadn't really heard that early stuff for years, and there was a track: 'Lines Running North' or summat, really liked it, couldnae find it. This is a blast from da past... Youtube vid says 85, must be a re release, I'm thinking a couple of years earlier.

They were very badly managed and very poorly promoted, they should have been much bigger and more well known. I've got all their albums and every one is, as you say, absolute quality. Justin Currie is a superb songwriter. Just wish I'd been able to see them live. PS Fair distance from Fegg to Longton

PS Fair distance from Fegg to Longton Before the age of 14 I knew the location of everywhere they sold records in a ten mile radius, from proper record shops to corner shops selling ex jukebox stuff. And a system/route through the month to visit them all. Anyways seems Del Amitri re-formed last year so there may be a chance of catching them still.

Played on Jo Wiley's show this week. If you can get past the bizarre videos there's a decent band here.
