Bad attitude that lad. Could start a tribunal dispute in a empty cupboard. Snigger. The question is, did he lay down the DNA criteria, or did he leave it to someone more lively and inventive?

I thought we merged all things TP related into an 'Everything Pulis' thread these days? Although the merged threads did run the risk of people missing fresh news stories, good, or bad.

Pulis should have paid the bonus back before legal action was taken. Would have saved him the 1.5m damages and legal fees he has to pay now.
Just stupid.

Seems like madness on the face of it from Tone.
I guess he would now have to convince an appeal court that while he notionally resigned what in fact took place was a mutual separation, either that or just take it squarely on the chin!

Ouch Got to feel for the bloke, he had a job here to establish stoke and did it very well regardless of what he had to do to do it. If it wasn't for Pulis we wouldn't be buying the likes of the Bojan's Arnautovic's & Shaqiri's. Went stale but did a triffic job in what he set out to do This is nitpicky but I don't attribute our ability to attract the players we now do to Tony Pulis.

Palace Fan here
No -one knows exactly what happened but rumours are Tony Pulis asked for his relegation/loyalty bonus to be bought forward, Steve Parish agreed only for Pulis to then walk out of the club 2 days before the season started.
Tony had been given various opportunities to settle but refused.
Personally I find it hard to take great pleasure in this considering overall he did a good deed for our club but the way he left was very naughty on his part and now he has been caught out.

Regardless of his heroics as a manager who defies odds of relegation, he's a bit of a sod and has a charge sheet for this kind of thing.

I still can't understand where the £500,000 costs came from.
Isn't this dispute based on a single contract - and probably only a couple of clauses in that contract relating to the bonus? Maybe there's some discussion around what Pulis and Palace had agreed verbally too.
Surely that really is just a handful of days work for the lawyer/barrister? Maybe a day to read the contract (if they're slow readers), and a day to interview their clients?
Even if each legal team is on say £2,500/day - so £5k/day in total. That's 100 days work. 5 months man.
Really? Or are the legal profession just taking the piss?

A couple of things strike me.
First, Tony Pulis is not an idiot. Surely he would have taken legal advice before letting the case get this far. On that basis, he must have been advised he had a strong case (as must Crystal Palace of course). Maybe there will be an appeal.
Second, I find it amazing at the level of vitriol and sheer petty nastiness aimed at a man who did nothing but good at Stoke City Football Club. Strange and hard to understand.
I was trying to read more about this case and found this from the BBC in August 2014 at the time of his leaving:
Parish was speaking after Palace lost 2-1 at Arsenal on the opening day of the Premier League season, with Aaron Ramsey scoring a stoppage-time winner.
Palace, who are in their second season back in the top flight, signed striker Fraizer Campbell from Cardiff and defender Martin Kelly from Liverpool in the summer while former Fulham defender Brede Hangeland arrived on a free transfer.
"The stories about me wanting certain players and Tony not wanting certain players are just not the case," Parish said.
"My job is to try to get the deals done for Tony or any other manager.
"There was a good transfer budget agreed. There was a lack of targets the manager felt were good enough in the window and it came to a point where he felt he could not carry on.

Tony Pulis wants Crystal Palace to have 'a plan'
"I can't have people at the football club who are not 100% committed to what we are trying to do, so reluctantly I agreed to let him go and let him out of his contract.
"It is very important we have a good communication and for me the communication was difficult."
Pulis succeeded Ian Holloway in November last year when Palace were bottom of the Premier League and ultimately guided them to an 11th-placed finish - the club's highest since 1992.
Parish said he did not feel let down by Pulis's decision to leave, adding: "He doesn't owe us anything and I don't think we owe him anything. He did a fantastic job for us.
"He is a wonderful coach and he works so hard at the training ground and we would like to have kept him."
Some interesting words in there. "I agreed to let him go and let him out of his contract" and "he doesn't owe us anything" are two phrases that I suspect mean that this might go on for a while.

Times are saying the total could be closer to £5m Christ, that's a lot of money even for Tony you'd think. I just don't get why he has to be a bit of a tit with clubs (not us by the way), surely he'd realise it'd come back to bite him on the arse one day.

I'm trying to think of the positions of both sides...
TP's solicitors would have possibly been arguing that having requested the payment to be advanced, it was some kind of de facto acceptance to pay him regardless of the clause related to him still being in charge.
The counter to that being that it was in good faith, with seemingly no intention advised that he would leave the club and that there was no agreement on payment to revoke the relevant clause.
The counter to the counter possibly being that his contract may have had particular wording related to the way in which he would not be entitled to the bonus if he left under his own volition and by leaving by mutual consent, he did not leave in a way which resulted in the bonus not being due.
As with all these things, it's down to who is hearing the matter on the day and which side they fall on. Probably some wankstain waiting all this time to exact revenge...

For the money involved both teams would be employing at least one if not more senior barristers which will cost you £250-£400 a hour plus juniors, the case lasted two weeks wasn't it, add in preparation time plus meetings / correspondence over the course of two years plus the costs of the tribunal team and the cost very quickly escalates.

pure revenge from the Palarse chairman. He had a bonus clause for keeping them in the prem and he did it so surely he's earned the bonus. I get why the chairman is pissed off with TP for how he left them though.
