That Hi-hat, that kick and that snare, that's the birth of disco right there ... goosebumps!

Never heard that one before but immediately made me think of this one! No wonder mate, that Skull Snaps break has been used so many times over the years, it's pretty much legendary!

Paul , i can't figure out how to quote your post for Harold Melvin, but here's another where you can hear the transition from 60s soul to seventies disco, it sits fair and square right on the border
great voices, I like the crescending falsetto around 1:26 and 2:26

In my humble opinion we were still two to three years away from actual disco though. You could hear all the elments beginning to appear in 1972 on tracks like the Intruders - She's A Winner and The Trammps - Zing Went The Strings but for me the first two disco records came in 1973, MFSB - T.S.O.P. and Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes - The Love I Lost. I won't post The Love I Lost again but here is an interesting (if you're a bit of sad geek like me! ) little video with Earl Young (the drummer for MFSB and Harold Melvin) which kind of explains the importance of the kick, snare and hi-hat to disco.
