It's that time of year again & Ski Sunday are in the Dolomites (my Dad had one in the 70's) Some cnuts have just set off flares in celebration & there wasn't a chorus of folk saying they should be jailed. Some things just get lost in translation

Two pages in and no mention of the best thing about it (except Lindsay Vonn's thighs)

I absolutely love watching the skiing and the ski jumping (never been skiing and would no doubt have been useless at it) - although Eurosport cover quite a lot of it nowadays it doesn't quite have the same feeling as when David Vine used to commentate on BBC2, not forgetting the wonderful theme tune - it was just absolutely bang on for the programme.
I like watching the Nordic skiing as well as I've got older. We were in Austria in September 2018 and stayed in Seefeld - they were hosting the Nordic skiing World Championships there in January 2019 and were preparing the course when we were there. We also went to Innsbruck and had a trip up to the Bergisel ski jump - my god it's high when you're up there ! It looks pretty frightening when you see it on tv but when you're there the ground does seem one hell of a long way down ! We also drove past the ski jump at Garmisch-Partenkirchen - it just sticks up in the sky and makes it look even more intimidating than the Bergisel.

We went to Lake Placid in the 90s in the summer and the ski jump is scary as hell even in the warm sun. Did a summer trip to Calgary also in late 90s nd part of the Olympic luge track is covered and all weather and for about $15 you could have a go, which I duly did. Absolute blast , I thought I was quick but clearly about as fat as a tortoise in treacle compared to the pros. Did a Ski trip to Austria when at school, not really my thing, someone broke a leg and spent most of it on my arse, but the apres ski was bloody good

Cooked a nice dinner, opened a bottle of red, lit a fire and watched the Men's Downhill from Wengen last night. It was fantastic.

I've been to Les Arcs a few times and quite enjoyed the experience. They've got a run there called the Flying K. It's essentially a near vertical drop of 1 kilometre which you can pay to have a go on providing you sign the disclaimer which says if you balls it up then it's all your own fault. It can also be done on a specially designed mountain bike with adapted tyres. Someone said that there's a box at the bottom lift for participants to leave their brains in before going up the hill. Otherwise a good resort and not too expensive.

what's wrong with Kidsgrove dry slope, that's where I learnt was using it around the time Lesley Whittle was discovered in the nearby drain at Bathpool Lindsey Vonn has excellent quads, they would squeeze your waist tight

It used to be part of Sunday night viewing when I was a lad. Ski Sunday just before tea,a quick bath and then The World about us,the 2 Ronnies and bed ready for an exciting day at school. The end of 'Hart to Hart' signalled my bedtime. Mint TV.
