The size of the deal is breathtaking. If we are paying him £70K per week, which is probably likely, that's £20M over the course of his contract. In addition to signing fees, bonuses and of course the transfer fee. Realistically, he has cost us over £40M!
How far we've come from signing Ian Cranson. :-)

He looks so uncomfortable in that interview. Bless him, he's already won me over. If you've taken a liking to him like with Bojan then he's about to experience a whole new planet of uncomfortable. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/KYqg3pYeaerc5lD_P7BR.gif)

Peter Coates dunna half put me in mind of that funeral bloke in the old 70's horror film Phantasm!!! Hughes clearly hasn't got the joke, but knows from Coates' face that he's meant to laugh, or at least attempt some sort of a grin. ![:))](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/jitsPgqXBozY69AOPrPg.gif) Must be awkward considering he's got the coatescumber resting on his lap.

I go under the knife tomorrow in the day hospital + I'm shitting myself. This transfer though, has cheered me up no end, just fantastic! Don't worry about him learning a second language, he'll be given the very best English tuition there Is. As one poster has already stated, he'll know the International language of football, so no problems at all. Good luck tomorrow boys, give'em a shout for me. Good luck tomorrow mate, get well soon ! hope this will cheer you up! Many thanks for the montage . Brilliant !

I like these quotes from one of Bielsa's assistants at Marseille, Jan Van Winckel.
"Giannelli is still young and maybe to some unknown, but he is an absolutely top player,"
"What is his strongest position? He's a left-footed central midfielder, but he can also play the No.8. Under Bielsa he often played as a defensive midfielder because he felt that it was very important at that stage of building not to lose the ball and Giannelli is a player who hardly suffers turnovers. "
"Technically he is tremendously skilled with the ball at his feet, he can easily disable an opponent, that's not easy for a defensive midfielder. He also has a lot of ability to run."
Imbula has the qualities for the Red Devils?
"That level he gets absolutely, he has it all," says Van Winckel. "I could not mention one single quality that he has not got. He is still very young and at Porto he will undoubtedly make a lot more progress. He is a winner."

Good luck tomorrow mate, get well soon ! hope this will cheer you up! Many thanks for the montage . Brilliant ! Good luck fella. I had seen but forgotten how he tore us apart pre-season. Cue the nay sayers who will say something like Danny Collins had a good game against us once, but I think its time to step back as a Stoke Fan, count to three, breathe in then exhale and say f**k me its exciting

That is a great read.
Don't let the Arsenal lot see that he can disable opponents though.
He does sound like he's ideal to play alongside Glenn in the tougher games and instead of for the likes of Sunderland at home where we move the ball too slowly.

We must have several French speakers. Surely Shaq is one, from a tri-lingual country.
A real gem if he can tear himself away from his deli, in Hanley, is the lovely, amiable Mama Sidebe, who used to act as our interpreter.
BTW, Gianni is of Congolese parents, born in Belgium and spent most of his life in France.
We'll be in good spirits at the Theatre of Broken Dreams, later today.
Good luck Rennes!

"It's really important the fact Mark Hughes (manager) has shown a desire to sign me. I will give my best for him and the club. The last months I've spent in Porto have been difficult. I really hope everything will be fine here." Mark Hughes - Brilliant.

I'm not sure I'd have the balls to make him the record signing at £18m plus his 5 year contract that doubles that to nearly 40 million for an unproven premier league player.
It's a big call call from the club and if it doesn't work out he won't get the backing again but in Hughes we trust.

I like the fact that through the whole process, there were absolutely no murmurings of Imbula being unsure about moving here. Of course, that may not have been the case but on the face of it, after completing negotiations with his club the guy has quite happily turned up and stuck his name down for 5 and half years. It seems we're beginning to gain genuine credibility from the outside world that Stoke City might just be a bloody good club for top young footballers to come and strut their stuff. I'm sure the money on offer doesn't hurt either

Nzonzi cost £3 million and had premier league experience. At £18m I doubt he's going to be 6 times better than Nzonzi. It's a big risk for a club like ours.

My friend (A Liverpool fan) who lives in Stone said he will be a flop just like all other Stoke players and we're all delusional! Haven't had a laugh like that since we smashed them 6-1.

I doubt he'll be 75 times better than Hudson either, but times and transfer fees move on, particularly with the Sky money that's just about to land on every Premier League team's doorstep. It's a risk, but not as big a risk as £18m would have been a short time ago.

Sometimes you have to buy players who will help to create more chances for your strikers to take. Imbula's drive from the middle of the park should help in that regard.

Afellay was doing that job just fine though wasn't he and he cost nothing and is still only 29. I just think we had other areas of the team that could have warranted the investment more.

How do you know that we didn't try to sign a winger, a forward, another defensive midfielder, a centre half, a right back? It may well be that we tried but only Imbula (very quickly at the death) reached a successful conclusion.
