We've had better days but but we've also had much worse ones. Before it I would have settled for a defeat at Sunderland and a win in the cup game. Agree, it's dissappointing but hardly the end of the world. Tuesdays far more important. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards Yes. I hope we haven't become the sort of mardarses who shrivel up and blart at a defeat.

I didn't think we played too badly. Bit toothless throughout, and we are getting sloppy in certain areas of the pitch - but it was nowhere near as frustrating a performance as vs. Watford or Arsenal.

Big sam did the damage,he was going mental at 4th official and then at half time gave Mike Dean a flee in his ear about Ryans challenge on Duncan Whatmore and fletcher saying he shouldn't even be on the pitch. I would of been tempted to take Ryan off much like Alex Ferguson did with Gary Neville at the Brit. He got his way Did you condemn Hughes when he and Adam got Wes Brown sent off, despite Adam not being touched and rolling around as if he'd been shot? The hypocrisy on this thread is amazing. I think our message boards are the same but you lot are really showing yourself up as wingeing hypocrites.

Lots of positives for me. Walters aside, we looked a decent side for long spells but every time the ball went to him he lost it. He scores from 2 yards out, we win. Simple as. It was a shocking miss and proved very costly in the end. Frustrating to lose to such a poor side but its Stoke and its oh so predictable. Not forgetting that it allows the Walters hating brigade to fill their boots. Always tricky for you lads if he has a decent game, which he invariably does. Oh well, fill your boots as they say. I notice on other threads that your always a big defender of Tony Pulis so I wonder if this backing of Walters is something to do with that? The fact is though that Wallters has been our weakest attacking link a lot lately. He was easily our weakest lfoward at Newcastle, Southampton and again yesterday and he missed sitters in two of those games. Look at all the great chances we had at Southampton - he wasn't involved in any of them. This is not a our defending agendas, or sticking with players just because you like them. It's about us scoring more goals than we are. At the moment Walters isn't doing enough. He's not the only problem with our attack but he's the main one at the moment.

Complete and utter tools the lot of them. My eyes were hurting reading some of that. Are they all 10 years old? I've seen better banter at my lads nursery. You should've been on the Metro after the game!

You should've been on the Metro after the game! Had the Mackem metro delusions last year. Heard them going on about having turned the corner and they were up and running now etc. They were right though.... the week after they only conceded 8 at Southampton.

Very smug supporters for such a shite team. We looked comfortable even with 10 men and lost because of a paedo's dive. Oh and for that Sunderland fan banging on about 2 stonewall penalties one was yet another embarrassing dive from Fletcher and the other Glen Johnson got the ball. Be careful what you post

Just got back so I'm a bit late to this thread. Can I just add that the OP is talking nonsense. I take that to mean you believe Sparky had a better plan than Fat Sam and the players just didn't execute? Bit of both. The players weren't at it, although I think we would have nicked it with the full eleven on the pitch. We were slower to the ball too many times, which accounted for all the yellow cards from the usual suspects, Charlie, Erik and Ryan. Ryan being sent off (unfairly) and having to re-shape our attacking midfield to reinforce the defence just threw the tactics out of the window. I can't subscribe to your notion that BFS set up his team to get our players sent off. I was possibly a bit rude to you, but I'd just got back from the 300mile round trip to SoL, driving throuh crap weather with my oil warning light flashing at me. I needed cheering up, and wasnt too tolerant of any negative vibes. Soz, mate.

It wasn't just the key incidents. Fletcher was a cheating disgrace all game. Imagine what a cheating fuck Whatmore will be when he starts shaving? As for Lens, I thought he's come on, on roller skates.
Fucking cheats and it has to be 'ol Fat Head drilling it in to them.

I'm amazed that so few people are suggesting that Diouf might not be mentally right for games at the moment. Perhaps Walters is being overused in order to allow Diouf time to get his head right. Whatever Walters has done more than enough to earn a little leeway....his form over the last couple of seasons has been largely excellent. Oh, and its funny how you bring up Pulis because those who have the biggest problem with Walters also had a major issue with our former manager.

Definitely wasn't outcoaching, Big Sam has put them back to basics and we played right in to their hands for whatever reason, i doubt Sparky told our lot to play slow pace football and let them get back in to their 5-4-1 formation every time we attack, the players just didn't seem up for it on the day
We stand a much better chance against teams that want to come out and play us, there's a natural flow to most games, we know if we play Man City or Arsenal we will most likely be defending for a large part of the game, we might hit them on the break but that's pretty much it, playing teams like Southampton it's much more even, we can get at them just like they get at us, now ironically we struggle against defensively resolute teams like Sunderland, i'm not saying they didn't come at us but they dropped 9 men behind the ball whenever they defended and we were slow enough with our attacking to allow them to get back in to shape
For the life of me i don't understand why we didn't play Diouf from the start and didn't try to keep the ball in boring areas, it was their game to win at home, a 0-0 would have suited us down to the ground

Butland 6 a couple of good saves but I thought he could have done better with the 2 goals Johnson 6 left big spaces when going forward and often made the wrong pass Pieters 7 some last ditch defending looked up for a battle Shawcross 4 could have had 2 yellows before his wrongful sending off Woolly 7 getting to be quite solid in the centre of defence Whelan 6 gave a few balls away in dangerous positions but generally solid passing not great Adam 5 yellow card huffed and puffed but not really made any impact on the game gave some away cheap possession too often Bojan 4 sacrificed for a defender after Ryans red card but never made any impression on the game Shaq 6 tried hard but no end product didn't create anything Arnie 3 so frustrating yesterday slowed the game up went over too easy got dispossessed too easy and was generally wank Walters 3 missed a sitter apart from that was fairly anonymous only Arnie had a worse game Subs Cameron 5 did a decent job filling in Diouf 5 ran about a lot but didn't get any service Affelay 5 tried but no time to make any impression Hughes 5 never seemed to get the team motivated took off the wrong players at the wrong time persisted with the woeful Walters and Arnie Mike the Jasper Carrot look alike cunter Dean -10 and that's being generous. Gouranga.

Butland 6 Should have saved the first Johnson 6 Poor when getting good opportunities going forward Pieters 6 some ridiculous challenges and at fault for second goal Shawcross 2 off the pace first half and poor tackling. Woolly 7 best defender and showed Fletcher what he thought about his ridiculous dive. Whelan 6 Not his best day gave the ball away, but had more to do than normal. Adam 5 Didnt do anything positive all match. Bojan 4 lost the ball a lot Shaq 5 why cant he take the full back on and cross the ball? Arny 5 same as Shaq Walters 4 good save on his one chance, service to him was awful
Subs Cameron 5 anonymous when he came on Diouf 4 didnt look like he gave a shit Affelay came on to late to give a mark.
Why oh why dont Shaq and Arny ever swap wings during the match? both far to predictable when we break quickly.

Butland 6 Johnson 6 Pieters 7 Best player on the day but there werent many up for it Shawcross 4 Looked wobbly against that young Sunderland fella. Woolly 6 Solid Whelan 6 Not at fault but too much work to do Adam 5 Didnt do anything positive all match. Bojan 3 Wondering around the pitch too much, and never supporting the striker IN THE BOX. Far too deep in general Shaq 2 I reckon Rory Delap could have done better in actually getting some crosses in. Should be made to watch the video back and explain why he backpassed EVERY single time Arny 5 Tried but needs to go on the outside more Walters 3 Awful

Exactly as I suspected, mr j Walters cost us at both ends of the pitch. Late to get out to block the shot then turned his back Keep piling on the hate. It usually results in Walters making you and the other haters look a bit silly. I'm commenting on one game where he was absolutely fucking useless. If you cant handle that and feel the need to blindly defend him no matter what then fill your boots. Is he your son? Walters will never prove me wrong. Never has, never will. He has his strengths, is great to have around the club and in the squad and he will no doubt dine out on another good game for several months in the near future.
