So I'm getting hints and nudges from "junior" that he wants an Xbox One for Christmas.
"We"* currently have a 360, with around 20 games plus Kinect, extra controllers and a Headset.
Despite this considerable investment I'm aware that moving to the XBox One will mean alot of these games are redundant as there are few that are backward compatible just yet and also that the controllers and Kinect are not compatible. So, with this in mind:
- Am I better to try and trade-in or sell privately the console and all the other gear, or keep it and use in a spare room (yet to be kitted out) and just start with a new Xbox One?
- And are there likely to be any last minute console + games offers nearer to Xmas? (I note that lot of the bundles at the minute include the 500GB console - is there much advantage in a 1TB one?).
- Will the headset work on a Xbox One or is this dead in the water too?
'Scuse all the questions, I'm no gamer - I just finance and set the f*cking thing up!
* It's in the lounge, but he uses it solely pretty much.

Until you've got few games for the One I'd keep the 360. My kids kept theirs and still play on it. Its just on the shelf below the One so you dont have to kit out another room. Don't get a kinect as they're shit for chatting and the games get played for an hour every 3 months. Complete waste of money. The headset won't be compatible but you'll get one with the new console so no big deal. If he's the sort who flicks between games and wants loads at the same time then in the future the 1TB would be useful so they can all be ready on the hard drive. If he sticks to the same ones for a while then 500gb will be fine. That can hold about 10-15 games depending on the size and they can always be deleted and reinstalled when he wants them. You can always get an external hard drive later anyway. Hope this helps.

The Kinect was used a bit when we got it, but the shape of our lounge makes it tricky to get the most out of it - so if we get the Xbox One we may not get a Kinect for it. My lad usually stays on a particular game for days (not literally!) - at the minute it's Destiny, but I can see his interest in FIFA coming back once he's able to play against some of his mates who've had X-Ones for a while. Argos have a good 500GB bundle at the minute. I might get him to go through the games he hasn't played in ages and sell/trade-in at Game or somewhere. Thanks again.

I agree my boys have stuck with their 360 since they got a one mainly so theyve both got a console each but so they can cross platform game . as a side note the new xbox controllers can be used with old headsets with an adapter and not just the xbox official one check it out on you tube to explain it better than me on here ,as the headsets that come with the console are shite my boys broke 3 in a week without trying and they were looking after then just seems like the soldering or wiring inside is weak

Both my boys have got them and I play a bit so I know a decent amount about using them and unfortunately also paying for them ;) If you think of any other questions let us know and I'm sure we'll do our best.

'Scuse all the questions, I'm no gamer - I just finance and set the f*cking thing up! * It's in the lounge, but he uses it solely pretty much. Since he's a kid, once he gets the Xbox One, I can't see him wanting to play the 360 again, so I wouldn't keep it unless you plan to use it for family games etc. CEX will tell you the trade in price you can get for all your games. You can also check here for GAME's prices, although CEX usually give more. GAME price match trade in prices and beat them by £1 (providing the store you're comparing the prices to is within a 1 mile radius of the GAME store). They're supposed to beat each one by a pound too, so there's an extra £20 if you trade in all of your games (they sometimes try to screw you by giving £1 extra for them all so make sure they add it for each game). Do you know what model of 360 you have (this will obviously determine how much you get for it). That will hopefully help you decide whether to trade in or sell (obviously use the "we buy voucher" value since I'm guessing you will trade in and put it to in store GAME credit to get the Xbox One). Another option if you decide to keep it (you probably won't get a chance to combine the two anyway, unless GAME have in store offers) is wait for black friday. There will be quite a lot of offers on Xbox Ones so you should have a look around then. What headset do you have? Is it the one that came with the 360 console? If so, then it won't work. If it's a third party headset then you might be able to use it with... thisIf you want to invest in a headset (if you don't already have a third party one) rather than the standard one you get with the console (it might also benefit you since he can play the TV sound through the headset), the Turtle Beach X12 headset is a reliable and comfortable one. Some of this is obviously additional information (that you probably don't want/need) but just thought I'd bring it up.

Thanks for the tips R_S.
I have a Game and a CEX within spitting distance of each other so I may decide to play each other off with some trade-ins I've told my lad to sort out.
I forgot about Black Friday as well.
The headset is a Turtle Beach one, although I'll have to check what the exact model is to see if it's compatible. I'll probably have more questions around Black Friday, but thanks for all those who've chipped in.

I'm posting off my phone so I doubt this link will work properly but: www.turtlebeach.com/xbox-one-console-compatibilityYou need the adapter to use them but that's a chart that turtle beach posted when the adapter was first released.

I think the headset's an X12 - which should work OK I think.

I'm currently undecided between and Xbox 1 and a PS4 . What would you all recommend for someone that doesn't do much online gaming ?

I'm currently undecided between and Xbox 1 and a PS4 . What would you all recommend for someone that doesn't do much online gaming ? PS4 I'm not a big gamer I haven't had time for a good few years now and the last console I had was a PS3. On the rare occasion I've had a go of my mates consoles I've enjoyed it but I can't quite get my head around the online aspect . I was playing a boxing game a couple of years ago and as soon as it became apparent that I was winning the other person left the game which kind of defeated the whole object . When I look at how far gaming has come I find it fascinating and the graphics these days are out of this world . I enjoy sports games mainly such as fifa but I like war games with a good plot as well and I've been meaning to treat myself to one or the other for a while now , especially since I now have more spare time on my hands .

If you just want a games console, get the PS4 because it's better at running games than the Xbox One.
If you live in the US and want a box that plays games and has the option of plugging your American satellite into, switching between the two easily then get the Xbox One.
