The Shostakovich piano solo earlier this evening was tremendous - www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b069wyn4I don't like all of the pompous patriotic tub-thumping stuff that you get on the Last Night. The Proms season is great though as I love classical music. I pick and choose what I see and you do get to see som brilliant performances. I'm still waiting for them to take on a Wagner opera (Tannhauser please!) one year.

The music can be awesome.
But I can't be bothered with the Hoorah Henry's and Henrietta's dressed up in their penguin gear and assorted finery bobbing up and down and generally doing their upper class version of the yobbish behaviour that gets them spluttering into their morning coffee while reading the Telegraph.
Yeah - I know. Why shouldn't they have a good time. It just makes my skin creep. That's all. Better listened to than watched IMO.

Is it just me or has it gone shit in recent years? When it used to be done by that old fella he'd play the ace bits of songs over & over, getting quicker & louder each time, the crowd would get proper into it & it all seemed so relaxed & such fun. Nowadays we've got some stupid Yank bint doing it, her babbles off on some feminist rant, and only plays the tunes once... And even then they're shit weird versions.
Like everything else nowadays, it inna as good as what it once was.

Before the West Brom game, I was at a recital at Nottingham - daughter's boyfriend, aged 16, playing Prokofiev's 1st piano concerto . Straight afterwards, bombed over to Stoke in time for the kick off. There can't be that many people who have done a classical music concert followed straight afterwards by a footie match. The music was better than the game!

I do agree about the lady you describe as that 'yank bint', we could certainly have done without her feminist rant although it seemed to go down well with the crowd. She is a raving lesbian I believe and while I am normally all for a bit of 'girl on girl action' I wouldn't mind if it didn't include her
