I went last night, seen Stoke away a fair few times but nevert in the away end
While the view was poor and the entertainment worse, it was absolutely superb.
Mad traffic going down, M6 closed on the way back- but worth it to be chanting 'USA' with young erasurechild who would normally have been in bed two hours before!
Goarrrn Stoke xx

But you're not knocking our support. No of course not. Just making an observation.

The reasons include:
We are not a very big club. We are a low paid area. It was on TV. It was a night match a long way from home. The large majority of our "Premiership" fans are strictly home only. It was against a side 3 leagues below us.
I will copy and paste some of the above for the next time this subject is discussed.
As a side note, in the early 90's our average crowds were between approx 13 - 17,000. Away followings were regularly above 2,500 and followings of 4,000+ were common. As a percentage of our overall support away followings were massive back then. I think the current cost of Away days for fans from a low paid area like Stoke has a big effect.

Luton on a rainy Tues night is a hard call especially when the game is on tv,i was at Spurs and our support was excellent the noise we created was inspiring and played a part in us taking a point, the support at Norwich was good considering we were hanging on for a point, its a tough ask to attend 3 away games in such a short space of time,on the pocket.

Leicester @ Bury – 1,350 Norwich @ Rotherham – 1,029 Northampton @ Newcastle – 1,000 Sheff Utd @ Fulham – 955 Boro @ Burton – 900 (approx). Oxford @ Sheff Wed – 831 Stoke @ Luton – 823 Not knocking our support and never will. But I cannot understand why we take so few away.I know we have just had two away games but without checking Im sure other clubs fans have the same issues. These are exciting times for us and the mood atm is buoyant (I think) so has anyone got a sensible excuse or is it just that we are not as big as Leicester,Norwich etc? The bus's got back to the Brit at about 1.15 am .......also, many were warned about travelling and parking in Luton before hand cant blame anyone for using their brains and ditching this one Alas, I have no brains

A - Cause it was on tele and my living room is a lot more comfyer than a 2 hr drive and a shit hole of a non league standard stadium....complete with its "quaint" terrace house facade. B - I work until 5pm and refuse to take a half day holiday to use for footy and then be half asleep next day because I got 5 hrs sleep. C - no interest in the early stages of the Singhs corner shop Cup Trophy shield....or what ever they call it now D - Been to Luton quite a few times when it meant something a little more....first game of the season 1984...ask the lord mayor he came to greet us E - Lutons a shit hole and it would take more than the above reasons to make me want to go again F - I have grown out of the habit of just throwing money around to attend most of our away matches just because Stoke are playing......and guess what, yep it was since the away membership was introduced, a card that I refused to hold. is that enough Piss poor excuses

I wonder if Egghead went to Luton, I notice he never mentioned it Its Mr Egghead to you sonny. And no I didnt go to Luton.Reason ,I couldnt be arsed and I live a lot further away from Luton than Stoke. As I said before Im just curious why our away is consitently low .We also possibly have the least travelling to do of any Premiership club.Regarding Luton I thought user matelot said some interesting points. We are not a very big club. We are a low paid area. It was on TV. It was a night match a long way from home. The large majority of our "Premiership" fans are strictly home only. I dont go away anymore since this stupid fad of away fans standing up all match started. If i wanted to stand up at a football match i'd get in a time machine and go back to the 80's! Used to go lots of away matches when i was younger and we never had a problem back then. Everyone was quite capable of sitting on their arses back then.

It was actually NOT possible to sit down as the space between the seats didn't allow it (OK I'm 6'3" but hardly a 'giant') Our support was excellent on the night despite the best efforts of the team to spoil it all I have no gripe with those who didn't go, I live a lot closer to Luton than most Stokies and it still meant getting home at 1.15am...work on Wednesday was a bit of a blur! Our reward...Fulham...another ground where parkin is nigh on impossible...but at least some decent pubs by the river

Calling me sonny I don't think so did you go Dennis Violets testimonial against England or Stoke v Glasgow Rangers well I did and I don't even think you were a twinkle in your father eye then
