The best thing stoke city have is the small but solid steps they make to progress every season.

Being ambitious isn't a bad thing, but being downright deluded is. The fact Newcastle United fans still believe they should be challenging for Europe every year is a perfect example of blind delusion.
I don't believe we're deluded, not yet anyway.

I've said it several times before and will repeat once again to answer the original question (not all the filling that followed it). "DON'T ACCEPT MEDIOCRITY, TAKE THE INITIATIVE". Hopefully that is the mindset at the Brit.

Don't get me wrong I am all up for a massive signing to make the world take notice of Stoke City F.C ( I mean imagine the potential revenue we might get offered) But I feel that if we spent all these summer months chasing Shaqiri for example, we might be missing the bigger picture. For a start, to me RB is by far our weak point. Yes we do need a winger ideally but the amount of goals we gave away from the right side was shocking. Geoff is a good player either as a back up centre half or in defensive midfield. I don't like him as a RB he seems to drift out of position to often and is a expert at giving away cheap free kicks. Bardsley is just rubbish at defending, decent at getting forward but struggles in one on one situations. Surely focusing on this position is a must rather than chasing players that are looking for excuses not to join us.
What I am basically saying is I would rather have a good RB and a winger rather than just a great winger. Ambition is all well and good but I think we would finish higher this season with a good RB and a good winger rather than just a great winger.
[/quote To allay all your worries STOKE City have gone to the trouble of employing a manager and several other people who work very hard to ensure that when you come to watch on a match day the team will perform to our requirements. Stop werritin!

If people disagree with me that's fine. Not everyone is going to think the same. I am not about to spit dummy out over it like others who I won't mention. Sorry to say that on this board you have to some times ask permission if you can say what you want .That is the truth

No.
Stoke have finished 9th twice, have potential to improve (based on points dropped against poorer teams last season and the RB weakness you refer to) and are very wealthy and getting wealthier.
The club are quite right to seek to contract a better class of player. Apart from improving the standard of the squad, it sends a positive message to those current players who might consider moving to a "better" club to stay at Stoke. They should persist in pursing their goals. Over ambitious? I don't think the players being sought are absolutely top draw or they would not be allowed to leave, or the really big clubs would be in for them. So IMO Stoke are pitching their targets about right but will always find it difficult to beat clubs competing in European competition till they are there themselves. Even then I expect the going will get tougher, e.g. retaining their top ten Premier League position.
For the last 2+ years the buying has been dominated by picking up very good value players. The current close season transfers have been dominated by players coming to the end/last year of their contract (apart from Shaqiri). However I have no doubt there is a huge amount of work going on behind the scenes which we are not privy to, including strengthening the defence. 45 goals against is not acceptable. But if we are to pick up those points against bottom teams that we dropped last season, the club needs to engage more craft and skills to unlock defences. Only Bojan and Moses really threatened to split open defeneces and they missed a lot of matches and were not at the top of their game every match.

I worry we are wasting time instead of looking for the best players that we could attain yes. I am all up for signing him but I think get it done before Singapore or move on. Do you honestly think all our transfer team are just sitting around the phone, waiting for Shaqiri to ring?
