Not a bird, but me best wildlife sighting this year so far: A Hummingbird Hawk Moth on the verbena yesterday. One of these ..... Incidentally , although I'm not a proper twitcher , I must confess that I've spent hours chasing Hummingbirds for a photograph . They are so fast in flight that it's hard to follow them . The contrast in colours is amazing . So much so that it can become addictive . I photographed a few in the Carribean and they are one of my favourite birds along with Linda Lusardi .......

Yes that was the fella. Cheers. Hovered around for quite a while feeding, part bee, part moth, part miniature bird. I've never seen the real thing, would love to. The first time I saw a Hummingbird Hawk Moth was at Astbury Garden Centre in the blazing summer of '76 or thereabout. I was only a nipper so the moth looked relatively large, it left a lasting impression. Hadn't seen one around here for about four years.
I was more struck by Karen Richardson and Suzanne Mizzi.

I saw and heard a Grasshopper warbler this morning down the marshes....One of the birdwatchers pointed it out to me . He also said that the previous three harsh winters seemed to have prevented the Egrets from returning to the lagoons , which is a shame because they are a majestic sight .

Called up the folks' earlier and caught the tail end of a Wryneck. And saw the neighbours tame cock pheasant. Left it's family; the female and two chicks in a Rhodedendrum bush and came out for biscuit crumbs.
The last time I dressed a brace I left a bit of crop or summat in and poisoned mesen and the guests. I'm off it.
It was lucky.

Spotted 2 bull finches in Northwich woodlands on Saturday, also helped a young fledged nuthatch from off a pavement over a garden wall into cover, there was a large oak tree in the garden and its parents were chirping at it from up in it.
