The Irish should be ashamed to accept this deal! It's a wonder though that they didn't start throwing stones at FIFA HQ.

This is absolutely shocking. Even more so than the bribery allegations around the world cup.
The fact that Fifa paid off a country who were victims of a refereeing error is simply unbelievable.
I just can't see how Fifa can survive in any form anymore.

Delaney should resign from the FIA for accepting hush money. On the other hand Martin Atkinson can pay Konoplianka's wages for the number of times he screwed us over.

Begs the question whether they also paid off the Ref?

I don't think FIFA have actually done anything wrong here.
Like all big companies do when there's shit about to hit the fan they offer hush money/out of court settlement to sweep it under the carpet.
The Irish FA didn't have to accept did they? They did, that's their decision.

Isn't this what's known as "settled out of court"? The FAI accepted the money, bit rich if they start moaning now

Any court would piss themselves laughing if a bad decision in a football match was presented to them. FIFA would be skint not minted if they went around offering hush money for a bad decision.

I agree but the Irish FA dragging their heals might have caused trouble for the actual staging of it? It does seem odd from that stance that there was money offered.

Isn't this what's known as "settled out of court"? The FAI accepted the money, bit rich if they start moaning now What court was this settled out of? Well, as it wasn't settled IN court, it was by definition settled OUT OF court. Every court in the world The FAI threatened legal action, FIFA offered them some money, the FAI accepted it. Settled out of court.

Begs the question whether they also paid off the Ref? Not really. If FIFA were determined enough to get France to the World Cup after the game, logic determines that they would be likely to endeavour to ensure this during the game?

What did we get for Maradona's hand? Sod all i'll guess and that is absolutely how it should be. Or do you think we should put a claim in for "wrongful handball?" See where it leads...?

I said FIFA have done wrong, there way of moving on was paying Ireland so they didn't drag it through the courts because that is what they were going to do and it would have held things up. The FAI are the ones that need fucking here.

I hate the thought of video refs, it's horrible. I give up.. It's just shit, takes too long, takes the euphoria out of goals and deep down we all love whinging about mistakes/cheating/refs. I hate it in rugby and I really hate it in cricket. Loada wank!

It was only a loan? To help build a stadium. To be repaid if they qualified.
This makes me feel very very uneasy. As a soap opera it's comical and grist to the mill. But regarding a sport that I've followed and loved for nigh on 45 years it's wank.... I don't know what to think or who to trust no more. And while the cynicism is swirling around, let's see what happens when the lid gets lifted on doping in nogger..
Terrible days.

At the end of the day the fact is the Irish fa have a nice little earner, the players have a nice summer holiday rather than a World Cup and again the real people that suffer are the fans!!!!! Same old Whilst I agree that the fans have been cheated they have been cheated by the ref not FIFA, it happens every week, I don't understand why FIFA did this maybe they just has too much cash. Lets be honest the FAI's case would have been laughed out of court and if it wasn't then that would have been the real end of football, if every poor ref decision was taken to court then the game would be unplayable, maybe FIFA did the right thing on this occasion (fuck me that stuck in my throat!
