I'm fairly confident that we will put a value of £3 million on peter crouch but will get blown out of the water by Tone who will come in with a starting bid of £ 5 million after taking advice from Dave Kemp...rising to £ 8 million after 4 appearances ....

Crouch is important for us. He presents a unique match up problem for opponents that just cannot be taught (height obviously). He may not be in a starting role be he still has the ability to get open and score. He's perfect for when we are down by 1 needing the tying goal (Newcastle comes as a good example this season)
Hope he stays.

His defensive qualities shouldn't be ignored either

His defensive qualities shouldn't be ignored either I think these are more important these days. He is not as effective as he was as an attacking force, but offers us a different option to try and score and does sometimes succeed, e.g. away to Newcastle. But for me his most useful role now is to protect a lead when the opposition is pressing forward an attack towards the end of a game. He is the best there is to get the ball to and hold onto it while the defence reorganize and come out. He is also an extremely good marker to defend the dead ball situation and clear the high ball. He's not a first choice, but he is still one of our crown jewels. I hope he chooses to see his career out at Stoke.

I think the current scenario suits both the club and Crouchie - can't see why either would want to change it.
