Ashley Cole is a better player, will he get this send off? No he isn't and he's hardly a role model for anyone is he.

Maybe next weeks Oatie should have a 10 page, pull-out, tribute section dedicated to Stevie G?? ;-)

Robson,Gascoigne,Platt (yes Platt),Scholes,Hoddle all better for England. I think Lampard was better for England too. Gerard has been a great talisman for Liverpool. I think Souness was better, not English though. Scholes was an outstanding footballer and he was criminally played out of position by England managers which I think forced him to retire earlier than he should have done for England, whether he was more successful for England than Gerrard is up for debate because Gerrard has over 100 caps to his name and more goals,he too was shifted out of position regularly to accommodate Lampard. I'm not doubting that Scholes was a top player, because he was,I just think Gerrard was the more complete central midfielder and had more to his game than Scholes. Gascoigne was one of the best footballers I have ever seen in his all too short pomp,so I'll give you that one. Platt had a great career and was a superb goalscoring midfielder, better captain and all round midfielder than Gerrard? Not for me. Glenn Hoddle had magic in his boots but was a completely different type of player than Gerrard and did Hoddle really have that glittering a career with England? Although in my opinion to just base an opinion on a footballer by what they did with their national side is bollocks. Yes it is Robson was the best of the lot. I just think Gerard is just behind Scholes and Lampard Gascoigne...could have been so much more.

I can understand people hating the guy, but he's been a very loyal and dedicated footballer and I wouldn't be one to boo him off the pitch. But if I was there and planned to give him a little stick, I'd go with something like:
Steve Gerrard Gerrard Go hide on the Galaxy You'll play next to Jack McBean Steve Gerrard Gerrard Who the hell is he?

I'd do a bit of research if I were you! H Not Gerrard related but i noticed your post count, if it took you a minute to write every post you would have spent 14 days solid non stop writing on this board. im guessing most posts would of taken about 2 minutes. which would make a month of your life writing on here. god knows how much browsing you do on here but i can imagine alot. probably near a year of your life has been spent on here. now i dont know who has the most "interesting" life, you for spending nearly a year browsing on one site. or me for going to google to find out how long you have spent here. (tumbleweed) Or you could look at it another way. I joined this particular site 11 years 5 months ago. If you divide my posts by how many days I've been a member of this forum it averages out at about 5 posts a day. Not actually excessive in the scheme of things. H

To be fair Steve Gerrard has never influenced any game against us the same as he as against other teams, but for England he has been superb so for me I would be happy to applaud after 8 mins as long as I could slag him off if he actually looked like he could help his team to win which incidentally I think is not going to happen. COME ON STOKE

I think he'll play against us: Telegraph reckons...There is still something to play for in Liverpool's case - 5th spot. Spurs and Southampton could still bag it if Liverpool fail to get enough points against us. They could be a bit more focused out of the glare of Anfield. I know we have little to play for, but I wouldn't like to see us show ourselves up like rabbits in the headlights. He can take all the applause he wants, but I don't want Gerrard taking a goal or anymore points than necessary from us.

It was before I was born but am I right to think that Gordon banks played his last stoke game at anfield and got a rousing send off?
Abuse him for 90 minutes but I'd have no problem applauding him if he was subbed in the last minute.
He's been a top player, seems relatively normal, has been loyal to his boyhood team and has scored some massively important goals for them at big moments.
I've seen the Scholes mention above and he too was superb and criminally wasted by England managers who tried to shoehorn 3 players into 2 positions.
Gerrard and Scholes would have got the nod over lampard for me, who made the most of his ability but wasn't a midfielder of the calibre of those two. In fact, he was more centre forward than centre midfield which is fine when you're playing for Chelsea but less so for England who aren't good enough to carry a midfielder who only contributes in the last 3rd of the pitch.

The Stevie Gerrard farewell tour is now reaching vomit inducing levels. I just wish he'd have fucked off to the States to earn his next few million quid after the Palace game. I'm no big Wilko fan but he is 1000 times more deserving of a standing ovation from me than Stevie fucking Gerrard.

I will gladly stand and applaud any one who has lost their life, been taken ill or been involved in accident etc, but to applaud a current opponent, during a match he may, or may not be playing in, is quite simply wrong.
Dogs abuse whilst he is playing, and if he gets substituted, I will then join in the applause, but not a minute sooner.

I was very much of the opinion, that doing nothing was the best way to go but that link has changed my mind. I'll applaud him off or at the end of the game, if he plays.

www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/football-flashback-liverpool-fc-v-5743434Anyone who is of the opinion that Gerard has not contributed positively to the game in my opinion should not be following football. They just simply have not 'got it'. When are we going to see a homegrown player who will have played 17 consecutive seasons for the same club at the top level again? If we managed to produce a local player of this quality playing out his whole career for the first team I would expect that to be appreciated anywhere in football. Why are people so affected by media coverage? if you find the coverage cringeworthy etc, watch something else! Attachment Deleted

Sad if you can't spare a few minutes to applaud a respected opponent. If you cannot respect not only what he has achieved but also the manner in which it was achieved, I feel very sorry for a sad outlook on sport.

I'll be happy to join in the chant of "steven Gerrard - he hits like a girl" complete with all the actions in the 8th minute - or at any other time in the match! It usually seems to annoy him - which is good! :D hope everyone in the 8min eats a Wrights Pie in honor of our own no8 Wilson Palacios who will be leaving as well Heard the club was putting some industrial fans in the corner to be turned on in the 8th minute to honor the guy with some gale force winds.

Ok it IS dragging on a bit and he's bugger all to do with Stoke but he's been a damned good player (if a little over-rated) and I'd happily applaud him for that. That doesn't mean I'm joining in a 'jizz fest' as some have put it but simply acting like the sportsman I believe I am. We don't need to make a huge 'song and dance' about it but maybe a little polite applause would, at least' prove we're not the morons that some have us down as. I'm a 'mature' fella in terms of years but even more ancient when it comes to sportsmanship. In a world where it seems to have completely died a death, I remain a relic to times that I preferred when 99% of the Stoke crowd would have applauded a player like Gerrard. Sadly, if Ryan stays with us for his whole career and his last game is at Liverpool, I suspect the home crowd will give him far more respect than we are likely to give Gerrard. I hope some of our fans don't play up to the media stereotype on Sunday and have them talking about our poor reactions as much as Gerrard leaving Liverpool. Sorry......I'm very old fashioned.

I have a great deal of respect for Gerrard. I think he is a great ambassador for the game and for Liverpool. A few days ago I was chatting to a woman who worked at Waitrose at Alderley Edge about footballers who use the store and Rooney and his wife came into the conversation about how courteous they were to the Waitrose staff. As someone who works in a supermarket I know that the general public can treat staff badly and want to lord it over supermarket workers but apparently not Rooney. I put this conversation on facebook and someone posted a similar favourable comment about Gerrard.
"Stephen Gerrard, just pops down the village for his milk like everyone else. My mate's wife met him down on the beach when he was doing rehab for an injury & she had no idea who he was. He told her he 'played a bit of football' & she asked, 'what Sunday league?' to which he replied, 'yeah, something like that'. You could have knocked my friend over with a feather when he saw who this 'Steve' was his wife had been chatting to whilst walking the dog".
I saw him about 6 years ago in the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool opening an exhibition- I think he is quite appreciative of art- chatting amiably with the staff at the art gallery and the public. So despite his occasional misdemeanors its applause from this quarter.

Nothing I like more than people telling me what my opinion should be. Thanks. That's an interesting approach to Discussion Forums. So by that logic all opinions posted here are people telling you what your opinion should be? And that goes for all of us too. You don't have to have an opinion, but if nobody posted an opinion it would be a rather bland forum I guess.
