You can land the mythical creature of a goal scorer without breaking the bank. It's always a gamble though and the "misses" will always heavily outweigh the hits. The Benteke's and Bony's of this world are greatly outnumbered by the Osvaldo's, De Jong's, Ideye's, Riviere's, Abel Hernandez's etc etc. That's the job Les is tasked with though. If he's back in the market again in the Summer you'd imagine that'll be the end of Diouf. It would be a strange move to let Diouf go after he's been here only 12 month and following our apparent prolonged interest?

Maybe, but Spurs under AVB are a lot different to what they are under Pochettino. I'm not saying Soldado shouldn't of done any better though. I like Soldado, and he's a trier and a good footballer, but I just don't think he's suited to how Spurs play him. Possibly not brilliantly suited to English football generally. No I don't think he's suited to Spurs either, I just wouldn't say he can't play that role on his own. I think he'll go back to Spain anyhow.

Exactly mate Perhaps we should go for a Soldado type I think they're definitely out there if we can find them mate. All gambles but plenty of them pay off. Demba Ba is an obvious one, proved he can score lots of goals. We messed it up last time but this is a different regime. I'm assuming his knee hasnt exploded yet, maybe it was difused

We're all armchair experts mate I think if we are realistic in terms of what we might spend on a striker it narrows it down a bit which is why I think we'll go abroad again. I can't see us going above £10 million and I reckon that would mean someone like Charlie Austin would be out of our range (not to mention his likely inflated QPR salary). Do we take a punt on someone like Gestede at Blackburn? What would he cost? As I've said, Castaignos does it for me in terms of the criteria I have in mind but what do I know?! I'd take Jordan Rhodes in a flash mate On here though they'd say he's championship at best whilst they'd gladly see us pay £10m for a player from some random European club whose league is not as strong as the championship Clueless The Bundesliga shits on the Championship from a great height!

Jesus Bayern not you n all Of course it does.......I was just making a generalised comment and not about this subject It's a poor comment then Werrers becasuse it's not like people are doing what you're saying! The names mostly play in good leagues and the players are better than Jordan soddin' Rhodes (I can't stand him ).

Just out of interest. How many players have made the successful move from the Bundesliga to the PL?

I watched a video of him the other day, and literally every goal he scored was exactly the same. Winger passes it across the goal and Dost taps it in. Ian Rush must of been right shit then aswell And Lineker was wank n all then!!

I'm struggling to think of any off the top of my head bar Ballack and Podolski. Fulham had a few didn't they the season they were relegated? Diouf has made it back and done well.

Ive been banging on about this lad for months....real good striker Me too! You may get to see more of him close up, but we get Eredivisie on ESPN and every time I see him he looks like he has something special, if only it could be teased out of him. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the comparisons with the young and less effective Thierry Henry I've heard made are not too far wide of the mark. I think he could be a big star at the right club, and with the right encouragement. He's still young enough to improve, his star has fallen sufficiently that his transfer fee and wages would probably not be exorbitant (£5/6m?)and Stoke may be seen as a good club to come to in England to test himself and resurrect a once highly promising career.

I really don't get some Stoke fans. pwingy, shall we start a new club? It isn't that simple. Afonso Alves scored more than 1 a game for Heerenveen (45 in 39 games) and he flopped at Middlesbrough. It's about what system he's in now, what players are around him and what type of service he's getting. Do his attributes match the squad he's moving to and even the league he's moving to? It's all a factor. Some you can be sure on, some you gamble on.

The point I made was opposing the earlier comments from some that he only scores simple goals and offers nothing more, so we shouldn't touch him. That is complete horse cock. Whether or not he has the tools that can work with our machine, is another kettle of fish. 1 that we all need to trust the manager to work. After all, a massive percentage of our support thought that Kenwyne and Wilson P would have fit us like a glove. Sometimes, as you say, a gamble is required. I would be over the moon for a gamble like that to be attempted on a Dutch international with a 1 in 2 goal rate. Even if he only scores tap-ins, much of our poor finishing from Crouch, Walters and Diouf were all guilty of missing these tap-ins quite a lot this season. For me, creating the chances has not been a problem this year, it has been the finishing. Here we have a capable finisher and if MH wants him, it could be the 1 we have been waiting for.
