We were ok but Lithunia are about the worst team I think we've played in a good while.
When we got near their box we looked a bit devoid of quality and thought.
It should have genuinely been 8 nil at least because they were just appalling and would have been a good test for an England youth side.

England have never had much problem at home sticking a few goals past teams towards the lower end of FIFA ranking (Lithuania are currently 94th); the only question is how they win. Score early and you can relax and play some expansive football, go in at half time 0-0 and everyone gets anxious meaning a fraught victory with a few late goals. Guess I'm saying I don't see much signs of encouragement. Likewise if we'd crept over the line with some late goals in an unconvincing win I wouldn't have been down heartened. This is a pish group and we will qualify comfortably. The challenge comes when we have to square up against decent opposition in a must win game when the tournament proper starts. How will we dare then. Yesterday gives us no clues. Precedence gives us plenty. Sadly! Don't think it's true to say we've never had a problem in that regard - look at the group McClaren had. I think the encouragement lies in the players coming through. Welbeck is doing very well at international level. Rooney's like a man possessed as he chases the record. Sterling looks a real talent. Henderson is having a great season. In Delph we finally have a ball-winning option in the middle. Clyne's emergence means no more Glen Johnson or anyone called Kyle (there are no good footballing Kyles) being anywhere near right back. We have 3-4 decent left back options now. Forster, assuming the injury doesn't affect him long-term, looks like he might actually be competition for Hart. Then there's Kane, Sturridge, Barkley etc. We have the nucleus of a decent squad. I think am showing my age and the impact of 40+ years of disappointment; my first memory of England was a 3-1 home defeat to Germany in 1972. Since then - just brief flashes of promise. At no point though have we never had good players. And, of course, we've had some stunning results when it's all clicked. And dished out some drubbings (particularly at home) to some ordinary sides. So yesterday was pleasant enough. But nothing new to my eyes. We have another good squad of players who will qualify comfortably. But that means nothing come the finals. Remember 1988!

Oh I don't expect us to win anything, but not too long ago it was hard to see who was going to be able to replace the much-trumpeted 'golden generation' and I quite like this youthful side we're developing. A more progressive manager and some decent centre halves and we can at least have some optimism that isn't totally blind for the first time in a while, even if it will all go tits in the end.

Scotland are ok under Strachan. So we did we to beat them right! Yes although when we did play them they showed no fight or desire which was disappointing. Last night was just a bit shit though, a lack of cutting edge and clever play against the worst side I think I've seen England play in a good time is nothing to get excited about. A win's a win but it was painful.

Erm no.....I said it was disappointing not the reason we beat them. we beat them because we outfoxed them by playing with blistering pace We beat Scotland because we have much better players and those players put in a shift. It was premier league vs championship (at best!). Yesterday was premier league vs league 1 (arguably league 2). No contest really - if we play how we can play.

I do like kicking people when I play yes. But the Jocks were never going to beat us on a footballing basis they had to come out at full intensity and leave a mark on us. They never did.

No - the real art form is a legitimate challenge where you win the ball and leave your opponent wondering what happened. Nothing like it for getting the crowd going. You are right that Scotland needed to do this against us and, strangely, chose not to.

Raheem Sterling, Leighton Baines & James Milner out for the Italy game.
Ryan Bertrand is the only one called up.
So we only had two left backs available for the Italy game, so to be safe he's had to call up a third left back. Just WTF is he playing at?

Do you really take no joy at all whatsoever when, say, Arsenal get drawn away to FC Toilet from the 54th tier of the Northern England leagues and get kicked to pieces on an absolute bog of a pitch with a last minute winner for FC Toilet?

England still lack that proper world class player that makes a team tick. And we haven't had one since Paul Gascoigne.
But even with Gazza it wasn't enough because you need two or three in the same team.
Germany 2014. Muller, Neuer, Kroos. Spain 2010. Iniesta, Villa, Puyol. Italy 2006. Pirlo, Del Pierro, Buffon Brazil 2002. Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho. France 1998. Zidane, Thuram, Desailly.
When was the last time England had at least three genuine world class players in the same team?

Also Gascoigne was ace and a world class talent but indiscipline with and without the ball too often led to his brilliance having no end product.
