Well, I suppose if Stoke were the only game in town, we might have more support, but then we wouldn't be Stoke. I like being Stoke. I have absolutely no wish to be a "bigger" club.

I find their most recent flirtation with the periphery of the promotion scene quite concerning.
The same thing happened 2 or 3 months ago but thankfully they slipped quietly back.
I really had not figured on this recent resurgence.
Yesterdays 3 point haul at Notts County was as unwelcome as it was unexpected.

I hope they do get promotion. The embarrassingly low crowds and squad built from a budget of a ten pound note would be quite comical to watch.

Get to the play off final, be 1-0 up on 90 minutes, concede to take it to extra time, level on penalties with Dicko to take the fifth to keep them level. He steps up to take it, blasts it at a corner flag, slides on his knees towards the fans with his shirt pulled over his head to reveal red and white stripes underneath.
That'd do me.

For the record, Vale are only 6 points above relegation haunted Crewe.

The existence of Port Vale has a totally detrimental effect on the development and success of my own club. Next time thet go into administration I hope the council refuses to use tax payer's money to bail them out and that everyone else sees the club as the bottomless money pit it really is. Football in North Staffs would be better without Port Vale. Nail on head - ABSOLUTELY !

Be great if they went up. Good luck to em And I'm sure they'd take a few thousand to Wembley as long as they promised not to put any soap in the bogs.

For years I hoped our neighbours did well, always looked out for their results and even went to watch them if Stoke weren't playing. Then came the late 80's early 90's. We were awful and they enjoyed some success, rising above us in the leagues and holding their own...and didn't they just love it.
They never failed to gloat and laugh at our demise. They couldn't give a toss about Stoke. The good natured support I'd offered certainly wasn't reciprocated, Infact a lot of the stuff aimed at Stokies was spiteful and full of hatred. That was the point my views on that club and their fans changed drastically. I wish them every misery football can bestow and hope that one day that pokey little club vanishes into obscurity for good taking its tiny little 'army' of support with it. Those old enough to remember will recall their very vocal anger at the council for getting involved with the Brit. Strangely, their voices weren't so loud when the council bailed them out of administration not once but twice, using Tax monies paid by thousands of Stokies to do so.
I don't expect younger Stoke fans to understand, but a few of us older Stokies will never forget the way they behaved towards Stoke in those days. Don't expect any love or sympathy from us. We hate them and always will.

I'm very much in the hate camp! As a youngster ( i'm 50 now), I would go to the odd game up Vale Park and kinda supported them as my second team in those days. It was always their result I looked for 2nd followed by Crewe and I really hoped they would do well. In my early married days, when money was tight, I took a second job working behind the bar at a Working mens club ( I forget it's name) just down from Fail Park, bit of a rough hole full of dirty Vale fans who once they knew I was Stoke gave me a pretty hard time, even to the point of me just keeping an eye over my shoulder when I headed for the car, late at night after a shift! This was during the brief time they were better than us and fucking hell did they let us know at every opportunity. Since that experience, I have learned to hate their very existence and whilst they are still the second result I look for, if I'm not at a Stoke match of course, it is with everything I possess crossed in the hope that they have been smashed by a Bury, Rochdale, Huddersfield etc preferably on their own ground. With the distribution of money in football now favouring the select 20 teams in the Prem and to a lesser degree the Championship, the model of 4 professional leagues in England is a broken one with a limited shelf life and I am absolutely sure that within the last years of my life I will see Vale either close down or become part time and that day cannot come soon enough for me to the betterment of Stoke City FC. Very few players are plucked from these lower leagues these days with the top two divisions now able to shop overseas primarily for their talent. Bitter and spiteful towards Vale..... too fcuking right I am!

Having gone through that period when Vale were the "bigger" (ha!) higher placed club, we NEED Vale to survive if only to remind us what might happen if we don't continue to drive forward here at Stoke City...let us NEVER again be in that position.
So, good on the Vale...they keep us honest!...and are always good for a laugh!

My reason for hating the vale is the wankers i went to primary school with giving it the big'un when we spent a little time down the leagues near them and how even to this day they still role out there own tripe wishing Stoke to fail.
Fuck me, it seemed like their biggest result this year was our loss away at Blackburn.
So no, fuck the vale... i hope they rot down in the lowest tier and i couldn't give a toss if thats small time and petty of me.

If, and I know its a massive if, they came up and then made it to the Prem, what would happen to our fan base? Would our crowds go down or would we stay the same and theirs would still increase?? I seem to remember them getting 10,000 plus when we were sparring partners years ago in the same league and our crowds were very low, mind you were were incredibly shit back then and they were boxing well above their weight.

I worked in the Vale area as a 16 year old. I was tied to a chair , spat on slapped in the face not just by teenagers but grown men who I worked with as well, It ended with me leaving of my own volition, 14 men every age there is Scum the lot of them.
Then who remembers being shut in the Bycars End in the Borro match in 1976 shut in and crushed. yeh love you all Vale.
I wouldn't piss on one who was on fire.
