He said on P&G yesterday and on sky sports that there almost definitely won't be anymore players coming in, but why? Our replacement for bojan is Stevie Ireland, who is a great player don't get me wrong but he's injury prone, If he gets injured, we've then got very little cover for that very important role, same in other positions, I just can't understand why he's not looking to bring anyone else in, I know we've got a really strong squad now but injuries have been our downfall this season and who's to say it won't come back and bite us in the arse if we don't do any buissness on deadline day Because he's been given virtually no money to spend Because we're as good as safe for another season That's the message I think is coming from the club

Coates missed the Stanley Matthews dinner because he only just got back from the Carribean. Don't think that was anything to do with transfers. Not many people that work for Stoke know anything about transfers until they turn up at Clayton Wood, but people working there are not expecting anything.

Another guess is that, the richer the Coates family get, the more the club has to be self-sufficient. Yet another guess (I guess I'm in a guessing mood) is that I wouldn't entirely be surprised to see the club sold in the next year or two.

We're on the verge of something special AGAIN, the second time in the space of 4 years - surely the club won't balls it up this time?

Supporters never seem to realise that clubs have to operate within a budget. High standard premiership players are not cheap to sign and pay wages to. We hardly ever finance a deal by selling a player to bring one in. Coates has backed his managers superbly since we've been in the premiership, far better than most chairman have. We are doing better than expected so why spend money needlessly when it wont make much difference to our final league placing?

We don't really need anyone right now. Finish in the top 10 again, smash it in the cup and then regroup in the summer; when prices are generally more reasonable. Best chance this season to win a cup in a long time though, you'd think we'd be wanting to strengthen to compete in both the League & cup.

1. Buying in January is risky and expensive. 2. We don't actually NEED to buy. 3. Buying just to cover current injuries is short term thinking. So I, for one, will be quite happy with sticking with what we have. More controversially, I think it is more important to improve the teamwork of the current players rather than add more new ones.

If we don't fill the Assaidi loan spot, it will be gross negligence.

Buying to cover the current crop of injuries is OK, but I thought the reason we built up such a large, and comparatively decent quality squad was to cover us in case we suffered injuries. The injuries have disrupted us, and it would be stupid to think they hadn't, but somewhere along the way, they've helped to keep a number of players happy who wouldn't normally have had so much game time.
If something special drops for us, then fair enough, but I wouldn't be looking to sign anyone just to cover the injuries 'cos they're already covered.

Buying players I would say no.
Taking players on loan yes if the deal is right.

Whatever happens or not, I can only praise the way we conduct transfers under Hughes. He pulls rabbits out of hats that no one was expecting, and usually from left field. It almost seems that, the more we think we know, the less we actually do; second guessers and ITKs have all tumbled in his wake. Muniesa, Bojan and Wollscheid were all unexpected, and they are all excellent signings that add quality and depth to our squad. Odemwingie and Ireland were brilliantly timed signings that re-shaped our season last year, and nobody mentioned Bardsley until he was at Clayton Wood holding up the shirt. There was a bit of a build up to Arnie's arrival, but at least it wasn't scuppered.

32 points Feb 1st....save yer brass for the summer Yes and no. What happens if we have a few injuries and we drop a few places down the league as a result? A rough guide is 1M a place in the table and the average loan deal, given on what we are told, is around 1M for a season - possibly less for 5/6 months. If a loan player gives you cover and lets you hold a few places in the league then he's earned you a profit in 5/6 months. No brainer.

'What if' - how many times has that term been used in this thread? The problem is that it can apply equally logically to the situation of not having many injuries and we don't drop down the league, then the theoretic profit disappears - bit like fortune telling. The Assaidi loan spot was rarely filled by Assaidi this season so not filling it = no change

It's about the right deal I guess I'm sure he has targets but Jan is a tough time , season safe so no need for panic buys , maybe a loan in if he gets an offer worth a try

Would you put XMillion of your business' potential income on a punt?

I'm in the 'only if an absolute bargain pops up gang' on this one.
We're in great shape, especially given the injuries we've endured.
If we get anyone in it will be a bonus for me, and given his record so far I'd expect it to be a decent one.
One thing's for certain, he'll never better the Bojan deal.

Me, too. No need to buy - or loan for that matter - unless something really special comes along. We're fine the way we are - and I'd say we've already had a season's worth of injuries. I could see selling a couple though. Hughes is doing a magnificent job. The most important thing right now is to get him a contract extension.

My sources recon that the Chairman & CEO had a Friday day out in Barcelona and this is why he missed the dinner.
