Brilliant news, Glenn has been excellent over the last 12 months and Crouchy offers something more direct if we are struggling to get the ball down.

I can see the sense in Whelan, but I'm not really sure about Crouch. I hope he becomes more of a bench option now, though, a Plan B for the last 30 minutes if we need to try something different.

Pleased about Whelan but not so much Crouch as I doubt he's going to get much action after this season.

Yeah - not sure about that one at all. He's just turned 34 and seems to be 2nd/3rd choice already - and we're all clamouring for another option to come in as first choice striker. Suppose it depends if he's happy to be a fringe player on reduced wages and looks like he possibly is as that was all he was going to be for any club at this level?

Crouch and Glenn Whelan are both now contracted at the Britannia until the summer of 2017 and manager Mark Hughes told the club's website: "They are both fantastic professionals who had contributed a great deal to Stoke City long before I joined the club and have continued to do so. I’m delighted they are staying with us for at least another couple of years, because despite finding ourselves short up front and out wide, having lost Bojan, Ossie and Peter, I have bugga all money to do anything else. Anyone would think I was a bloody miracle worker - top ten my arse"

I can see the sense in Whelan, but I'm not really sure about Crouch. I hope he becomes more of a bench option now, though, a Plan B for the last 30 minutes if we need to try something different. Some games require the pace & mobility of Diouf or Walters, other games require the threat that Crouch poses, his ability to hold up the ball and bring others in to play. For me he has a big role to play for us still. He offers something different, rarely has a bad game and is a model pro. He's obviously great to have around the place, has a good media presence and is still amongst the goals. I'm delighted we've secured him for the next two years, it probably means he'll finish his career with us now.

Crouchy wants to become part of the 100 goals club in the Premier League and I guess he thinks he'll achieve that in 2 years here, even if he is coming off the bench mostly.

Suppose it depends if he's happy to be a fringe player on reduced wages and looks like he possibly is as that was all he was going to be for any club at this level? Doesn't mean he'll stay for the full two years, but he can now be sold for a fee, we don't strengthen a rival this season, and it takes pressure off us to spend big - his fee will have amortised now, so good for the balance sheet. I think there are loads of good reasons, and he can also lead the line brilliantly against the right opponents - how about that Arsenal game? In fact I expect him to start on Saturday...

Good news but we do need better to move onwards and upwards. I'll be dissappointed if either is playing regularly in 12 months time. We still urgently need a 15 goal a season striker and now Assaidi has gone, another wide fast option.

Yes, better to be a squad player at Stoke, where he is settled and happy, than move again and be a squad player somewhere else. I trust his wages reflect this reduced status, as he was on top dollar when he moved here from Spurs.

Glad MH has signed up TWO players with lots of re-sale value. Just look at that idiot Poolis signing that O.A.P. Callum McManaman for £5m at the grand old age of 25 years. Some dinosaurs just never learn do they?

Mark Hughes' words with regard to them both signing show what a fantastic man manager the guy is.
Great words, timed to perfection and respectful towards all that has happened at this club prior to him joining.
Really, what is not to like about Mark Hughes? The man doing a fantastic job for us.
Chuffed to bits that Whelan is staying on for another 2 years.

Good news on both fronts and something positive after the disappointment of Bojan's injury.
They both possess that Stoke DNA that's played such a big part of getting us to where we are now, it's something we don't want to lose as we progress, as we undoubtedly are under Mr. Hughes.

True - I haven't got a major problem with it at all in the big picture, even though his role will be diminished going forward. He can definitely still make a contribution and seems to be a positive, likeable influence around the club.

Do you know that he is on 'reduced wages'? Personally I doubt it. He may be on relatively reduced wages but he signed the last contract nearly 4 years ago and it's become a different world even in that short time.
