Craig Burley, a free agent, is considering a number of offers including Walsall
TP said that we were competing with another first division club for one of his targets
But would Burley come short term or would it be a contract to the seasons end?
11 March 2004 Walsall were waiting to see last night if they would be able to add Scottish international Craig Burley to their squad ahead of a crucial week at Bescot.
Colin Lee confirmed weekend reports that the Saddlers have made an approach for the 32-year-old, who is a free agent after being released by cash-strapped Dundee.
Burley, who spent last month on a short term deal at Preston, is considering a number of other offers but is due to make a final decision before the weekend.
Lee will be keen to add the former Celtic and Chelsea man to his squad ahead of Saturday's must-win home fixture against rock bottom Wimbledon, particularly as another transfer target, Bolton's Gareth Farrelly, has elected to move to Wigan.
Walsall have managed to bring in at least one new face this week, though, with Spanish attacking midfielder Mario Lopez Soler joining on a non-contract basis.
The 21-year-old, who has enjoyed previous spells at Valencia and Borussia Dortmund, made an immediate impression by scoring both goals in Walsall reserves' 2-1 at Preston on Monday.
Walsall have also been boosted by the return of Paul Merson following a month in an addiction clinic in America.
The 35-year-old flew back from Arizona yesterday and will be assessed by doctors before rejoining the Saddlers' survival bid.
He is unlikely to start Saturday's game but will come into contention for Tuesday's home match against high-flying Ipswich Town, kick off 7.45pm.

Mario Lopez Soler? we had him on trial in 2001/02... looks like we'll be seeing him again when we play Walsall reserves next week.
If we do go for Burley then at least we won't have to go through the old 'get the fitness' up routine seeing as he's been doing that with Preston for a while anyway.
I think we were after Gareth Farrelly last season before he went to Rotherham, so maybe that's the player that Pulis has faced competition over from another First Division club?
