same issue as the one with the Ade interview ... Them Pompy fans have got a right attitude going on about Southampton. all this they'll never be a bigger club than us etc etc. WTF are you on about, they have been a bigger club than you for fecking years .......... Pompy have done jack shit since winning 2 championships over 50 years ago just checked out the stats and Southampton have had a higher average crowd than portsmouth every season since 1963. Reading some of there comments was like reading the comments of crewe/cardiff fans, real chip on shoulder stuff...... www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/porm.htmwww.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/soto.htm

Rivalries are often generated by a chip on the shoulder of one party. Man City are a prime example.

dunno if u get 442 joe but its worth a read....and no I can't type it out in full...was about 4-5 pages long
though I could scan and email if you really want ....
but the hatred goes back pre-football according to some of them. summat about an industrial dispute involving both cities (same company had site in both cities) and the southampton lot went back to work first ... breaking the strike and being turmed "scum" for it hence the "scummers" tag

I get it sent to a newsagent by air mail. Expensive but you have to have a bit of luxury in life. Otherwise I'd get it three months after it comes out and its old news.
Good magazine. The fanzine revolution led to football finally getting the literature it deserves. It was much more highbrow when it first started.

Whilst 442 is a great magazine, I still have a tinge of sadness that it & other football monthlies led to the demise of "90 minutes" the only highbrow weekly footy mag.....none of that shoot & match crap fer me...proper articles is what i got every week.
So have you got this months with the ade article then ?

No. I'll ring the newsagent to tomorrow see if its here.
90 Minutes was the direct result of the popularity of fanzines. (they said themselves in the editorial of the last ever issue) It was quality but still a bit cheeky and quirky. Their success led to the highbrow monthlies and led to 90 Minutes themselves making their own called Goal. Of course Goal and Total football have died now.

I bought the first ever 442. I remember reading it on the way to Millwall.

90 minutes was a class read, wasnt it out every 2 weeks? I used to beg my mum for the 80 or so pence so i could by it on my way to school, i remember there being a Poster of Toddy O, and one of my Vale mates nicking it and burning it with a lighter! smeegs

90 Minutes was out every Tuesday. The Fools Panel was good.

90 Minutes was a very good read. There was plenty of Stoke (and Vale) stuff in there, and we regularly used to include cuttings in the fanzine.
One of the best articles was about Nico Jalink (a Dutch midfielder who signed for Vale at the same time as Van der Laan and Foyle). 90 Minutes described him as the "Potteries' new Stanley Matthews". ;D
The cartoons were excellent too.

I used to prefer the late lamented Goal to 442. 442 always seems a bit earnest to me, compared to Goal's more irreverent approach. If 442 is Q, Goal was Select. And they both went tits up so that shows what I know

It was sad when it shut down. I always remember an article called 'A sebnseless attack on Coventry City"
It went onto describe Coventry as the bottle of Lea and Perrins sauce in the back of cupboard. You see it but never consider using it and what is it for? Its just there.

Glenn I liked Goal too. In their free leaflet guide to the 98 World cup the said Berie Vogts looked like a shifty lesbian!
