MailStoke have made an £8m move for Rennes forward Paul-Georges Ntep.
The 22-year-old France international is one of the best prospects playing in the French league and has had plenty of interest from the likes of Arsenal, West Ham and Liverpool in recent seasons.
He is eager to leave but wants a club ideally playing Champions League football and that is putting him off a move to Stoke at this stage.
Manager Mark Hughes has made clear indications of his ambition with his targets this summer. Xherdan Shaqiri, Yevhen Konoplyanka and Andriy Yarmolenko have all been approached while Victor Moses and Barcelona's Adama Traore are other options.

What does the word 'move' mean in this context? Are they claiming that we've officially offered Rennes £8 mil for him, do we think?

Isn't he injured?

Interesting and probably a more realistic target.

That alone is enough for us to move on. (If true)

Yeah - looks like it.... linkA statement on staderennais.com read: "Paul-Georges Ntep will be absent from the field for several weeks. The Stade Rennais attacker suffered a tear of the right hamstring, shin splints and a stress fracture to the left tibia."

A very good player. Would fit perfectly into our fast counterattacking style.

Not to mention 1 game suspension He looks like a great prospect, but right now we need players who are fit and healthy and ready to go in 3 weeks time or so

We were keen in January (didn't we bid more than 8m then?) and are still interested in him, but with his injury and earlier rejection of a transfer, I am not sure if there are much legs in this story as of a transfer in this window. He is undoubtedly someone Hughes likes and he is still young, so we may go back in for him again if he can be persuaded that Stoke is the right move for him.
When he does leave France (and he will this year or next, I feel), we will be in the mix, but may lose out to one of the big boys if he continues to develop his game. We ideally need to buy him before the Champions League clubs come sniffing.

Bags of potential this lad at 22. Not seen much of him but heard rave reviews. Pace to burn with a good goalscoring record. Think I'd rather have him over Yarmo.

Hmmm maybe with his injuries, this would be our best chance of signing him?

He's a right footer who normally plays on the left. So he's more a competitor for Arnie than an alternative to Yarmolenko. That being so, maybe his injury isn't too critical for us, if we want to sign him as we could afford to wait for him to regain fitness - assuming Arnie doesn't have any problems in the first few weeks of the season. If we signed him that would put an end to any need for Moses - but it wouldn't solve the Yarmolenko position on the right.

He can play across the front line and can switch wings with Arnie throughout a game, you'd think.

Both over 21! we only have 25 places Traore is 19 and we have 3 goalkeepers, 9 defenders, 3 CDMs, 3 CAMs, 7 attackers including Moha so I imagine Texeira and 1 or 2 frontmen would be surplus to requirements. We don't need players desperately for 3 weeks time, these are long-term decisions
