So let me get this right, you're saying that rather than continue to speak up about injustices within our society (in the process reaching some people that wouldn't otherwise have a clue whats happening) he should just be quiet and not say anything? Odd logic, almost on par with The Sun logic Not sure what the 'Sun Logic ' exactly is as I haven't bought a newspaper for ten years but if we were to assess whose views are most popular then I am the definite winner. I'm looking at what time this was written & guessing you'd been drinking!?!

What you're basically saying is 'although I haven't actually heard or taken the time to understand his rationale I'm dismissing his argument simply because it's Russell Brand' Therefore any opinions you have on the topic are completely invalid. You have throughout this thread assumed a number of points based on fresh air. You have drawn up your own conclusions too. Goodnight. You've got an opinion but it's not an informed one, you've got no idea how to debate properly. I asked you to look at what he's said on a number of topics by watching 'the trews' and tell me where he's wrong. You said you wouldn't do anything that feeds into his ego so you're not prepared to do so. So to make my point again, if you haven't actually listened to the guys point of view I fail to see how you can possibly provide an informed opinion.

I think mumf is shooting the messenger rather than listening to the message but getting lectures off Brand about poverty whilst he's shacked up with Gemima Goldsmith is a bit rich (no pun intended). exactly, hes hardly credible when it comes to lecturing us

I've had to google her, didn't know who she was. Shes the one that's been around quite a bit, Imran Khan's ex? Looks like her and Brand have split up.

I actually despair. He's pointing out the flaws in our society (of which there are many) and correctly suggesting that things should change. What if he was saying the opposite of what he has been, I'm guessing you'd still think he's a twat? Yes he's pointing out flaws, but he's doing it in such a way that the story is about him, and not the flaws. He's got the limelight now, if he stops his verbal diarrhoeah and starts to use his platform using plain english, then I'll start to respect him. Absolute rubbish, the papers are trying to make it about him by printing what his house is worth/pays in rent, which he then responds to by trying to out the big companies that are getting the tax breaks....

apparently you will be able to listen to his verbal diarrhoea on QT this week (with farage too)
he will bang on about austerity to a baying crowd but queep quiet on his own tax dodging affairs and semi-exile status

Funny he has no problem using companies involved in tax breaks whilst publicly outing those involved.
You can't say one thing and do another. Never really liked him. Jammy bastard as well.

Try googling Stephen Dorrell also.

But he isn't interested in that is he? He sees himself as some kind of Che Guavara type figure..courting publicity and adoration...Saving the world...I don't think so.

being lectured on politics and poverty by russell brand is akin to getting babysitting tips off the mccanns Absolute nonsense, why do you think he's 'lecturing' you? I'll ask you what I asked mumf, can you go through what he's been saying via 'the trews' and come up with a rational, informed response with regards to what he's getting wrong and why? Do you think Fox News do a great job of being an impartial, balanced and fair provider of news? Do you think we aren't being exploited by a system that is set up to benefit corporations? You might know a great deal about politics and the injustices within our society, but there's a lot of people that don't and they are exactly the type of people he's appealing too. We're in the state we're in because far too many are either ignorant or just don't care whats happening in our society and I'm all for someone wanting to put information out there that people don't actually get through the mainstream media.

But if you strip every pre-conceived notion you have of him away and just focus on what he's actually got to say I think it's very difficult to argue that he isn't talking sense unless your part of the corporate gravy train that he's challenging. It's clear that not everyone is clued up politically, because if we as a society were I don't think the kind of social injustices that are currently being allowed to happen right now would be taking place. Not everyone accesses what I would consider to be good examples of journalism, like George Monbiots excellent article in The Guardian today regarding taming corporate power, and because of this I think the message will only reach some people if people like Russell Brand who are in the mainstream media and attract a lot more attention than the ordinary journalist actually voice their opinion and stand up for what they believe in, the more people become aware of what's going on the more change is likely to occur as a result. Would you really rather he went back to being the old Russell Brand? Keep picking up the considerable pay checks and just keep quiet about what he sees as unjust, unnecessary system that is currently only exceeding in making the gap between the rich and poor larger and larger? I'm glad he's prepared to stick his neck out and challenge the system, I just wish more people would do the same.

Brand is an uttercunt.
he likes to use big words to suggest he is clever, but often uses them out of context and ends up looking even more of an idiot. He is simply trying to be oscar wilde, but it's an epic fail because he isn't bright enough or talented enough to carry it off.
It simply amazes me how many women seem to fall for his crap - at least for a while before seeing through him. He seems to get offered film parts but is box office poison for me, the only "actor" who I will go out of my way to avoid.

People can't change their past, just because he's rich and just because he's a celebrity it doesn't mean that what he's saying isn't right. Don't focus on who's saying it, focus on what is being said and because he's saying it will reach a larger audience and get talked about more airtime than most journalists or politicians could ever dream of.

I like him. There I said it!! His stand up comedy isn't necessarily to my taste but I find him a decent bloke.
If he's preaching about tax avoiders whilst openly avoiding tax himself then that's pretty hypocrytical to be fair, is there actual evidence that he's doing that though? (not seen any although not really looked either).

Never found him funny, but as far as I can tell he's not try to be a comedian but make a valid point about what is wrong with politics and society - and he does that very well. Not sure he has the answer, but at least he's asking the questions.

He's completely fucking useless at everything else though , apart from fucking abite with trains and annoying me. I'm yet to hear a reasoned response based on any form of logic or understanding. It seems to me that there is a lot of snobbery going on, all I've heard from those who don't like him, look at the women he's shagged, look at the big words he uses, look at the way he dresses, he's a hypocrite because he's rich and famous etc and none of these things are in any way relevant to the things he's been saying. Can anyone tell me what it is that he's saying that isn't a true reflection of what is happening? For example whilst I think a lot of what he says makes sense and is right, I actually disagree with him about not voting. But other than that I can't see much else about what he says that doesn't make sense, after all he's suggesting that we make changes in order to prevent inequality and to make things fairer, and who here can honestly say that they would be against that?
