I got married on 19th August 2000 Bjarni equalised and Jimbo O'Connor scored an 87th minute winner as we won 2-1!
Am also fairly sure TP was in charge of Bristol!

Google is ace - match report from the BBC archives! news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_2/884689.stmWebsites have moved on a bit too since then! Saturday, 19 August, 2000, 17:53 GMT 18:53 UK Bristol City 1-2 Stoke Bjarni Gudjonsson and James O'Connor were Stoke's late goal heroes in a 2-1 victory against Bristol City at Ashton Gate. The Robins went ahead on 64 minutes when visiting defender Wayne Thomas headed a Mickey Bell cross past his own goalkeeper. But Gudjonsson got the equaliser on 75 minutes and 12 minutes later O'Connor drilled home a low winner. In injury-time Bristol City winger Scott Murray saw a close range volley rebound off a post and a draw would have been a fair result. There was a moment of controversy on 53 minutes when Wayne Thomas went down claiming he had been elbowed by Tony Thorpe inside the Stoke penalty area, but the incident went unseen by the match officials. That upset Stoke boss Gudjon Thordarson, who said: "My player was clearly attacked from behind and needed three stitches in a head wound. "It's the sort of incident no-one wants to see in the game." Bristol City: Miller, Carey, Bell, C. Holland, Dunning, Lever, Murray, Tistimetanu, Peacock, Thorpe, Tinnion. Subs: Jordan, Lavin, Hill, Spencer, Malessa. Stoke: Muggleton, Mohan, Dorigo, Gunnarsson, Gudjonsson, Lightbourne, Risom, O`Connor, Petty, Thordarson, Thomas. Subs: Ward, Clarke, Connor, Heath, Fenton. Referee: W Jordan (Tring)

Same day as you Sarge but in 1988, we were stuffed 4-0 at Leeds and my Forest supporting Father in Law, took great delight in mentioning the score in his speech!

You do know you don't have to get married on a Saturday?
(Not that that helps with the way sky fuck about with the fixtures!)

There's no excuse. There are quite a number of weeks between the season ending and the next one starting. And now we've got these damn international breaks you can fit them in on a Saturday once the fixture list comes out.
My wife once said to me "you love Stoke more than you love me". I smiled and said "that simply isn't true". "ahh" she said to which I replied "I love Vale more than I love you". Despite it being a joke she didn't speak to me for a week.
Priorities !!

I would simply make it illegal to get married in the football season, to avoid people having to make those choices under a new "Matrimonial Ceremonies (Football Season) Act"

27th Dec 1976 Liverpool 4 Stoke 0. We had been around mid table and below for most of the season up til this game. Then it was all downhill to relegation.

22nd April 1978. I can't remember what happened to Stoke on that day, but I seem to remember that Vale lost (and had to apply for re-election).

I got married on Saturday February 29th 1964. In those days following your team away from home was quite a rarity. We played Arsenal away and drew 1-1. I'm pretty sure our defender George Kinnell scored our goal.

Married 6/9/97 which was the day of Lady Di's funeral so all football was cancelled as I remember. If my memory is correct we were scheduled to be at home, but I can't recall who against.

The day I get married we spanked Norwich 5-0. It was the first home game my old man had missed for nearly 20 years, he was pissed off I could tell although he tried to hide it.... :-)

I wish Stoke had done something memorable on my wedding day. That way I might have a chance of remembering my (our) wedding anniversary.

7 sept 07 (Friday). It was an international weekend so England played some obscure 3Rd rate nation on the Saturday, beat them, but ultimately failed to qualify for euros in 2008

I got lucky. Not only had I managed to avoid a home fixture, but there was an abnormally good chance of an away win as we were up against the baggies and they'd not beaten us for 200 years or so. It was 27th September 2003. What could possibly go wrong I thought.

22nd August 1987 We beat Middlesboro 1-0, a 4 PM wedding and the priest told the church the half time score before we started, George Berry Scored the winner.
For those saying you shouldn't get married during the footy season, if you've just been away for 6 months in the Navy, you don't get much of a choice sometimes,

My sister got married 12th May 1984, the day we beat Wolves 4-0 to avoid relegation.
The old man (RIP) and me (just 17yo) kept nipping out from the reception like naughty schoolboys to get updates on the car radio.
My first 10 pint night - sick as a dog but still in Division 1 (until the horror show that followed in 84/85).
