Great read. Thanks for posting.
"Stoke showed their notable discomfort when teams press them and don’t allow them any space"
This in particular concerns me.

Good read - the bottom line is these players think they are better than they really are
To only really raise their game where we looked like a team against the two big boys tells its own story
Hull away and Sunderland away we were just as bad as those home displays. Although we played well in bits at QPR as soon as we scored half of them looked like 'that's job done' and switched off.

Wilson and Pieters came out of it with credit.
Don't be surprised to see both restored at the weekend (if fit).

It was Dioufs poor control that got him booked and when he did get the opportunity to sprint away his touch forced him wide.

Excellent on Diouf. His first touch is shocking .He simply can't hold the ball up and it keeps coming back.Don't care how quick he is.Better out wide.

Real ground breaking stuff that. Doesn't this apply to 95% of teams in world football.
I really would love to know the true expectations of Stoke supporters. It appears we expect Real Madrid footballers and performances, despite shopping in Lidl.

We're pretty fucked if that's all it takes to beat us then, aren't we?

There was a fair bit of hindsight in that article, regarding team selection I said before the game I wanted to see Muniesa at CB and I said at the time I thought Assaidi was the better sub for Moses.

Bardsley at left back ? Don't recall anyone suggesting that before hand. So you were advocating playing 3 defenders out of position prior to the match were you ? Are you Tony Pulis in disguise ? The fact is no one can pre determine how a match is going to pan out.On another day that same starting 11 could beat Burnley by a hatful. They still should have as it happens. Crouch for Diouf was a given seeing how poor the latter was. As for bringing Assaidi on,I too would have preferred that option but I'm sure your conclusions would have completely opposite had Assaidi performed like Arnie did. Like I say, hindsight is a wonderful thing when it comes to football. I predicted 4-0 by the way

Which three defenders would've been out of position? The only contentious one is Bardsley and he's got considerable experience at left back. Muniesa considers himself a centre back. Geoff does too. But he's always looked a better right back than centre back and again has a couple of seasons' experience in the role - he's played there in English football far more than he has CB.

So we shouldn't be concerned then? No doubt, but so should the vast majority of the league. We're no different, bit like most teams who find it difficult to break down a 10 man defence. It's up to the manager to work it out.

A very good assessment of the game, can't argue with any of that really. We were saying on the drive down prior to the game that Diouf isn't the greatest at holding the ball up and laying it off and it proved to be the case again, I counted five times he failed to control the ball in the first half alone. His pass success rate of just over 68% also highlights that he is guilty of giving the ball away more often than he should be. As you say in your article though, his pace, work rate and ability to score goals on a fairly regular basis makes him a very valuable player for us when he's performing well.
I thought Arnie started the game brightly when he came on, the turning point for me was when he cut into the area and screwed the ball wide when he should have squared it. There was a few groans from the crowd and that seemed to be enough to knock his confidence and everything he did after that was largely poor. At the end of the day he's got to be mentality stronger than that, he's long over-due a good performance and I don't think he did enough to warrant a start at Liverpool on Saturday.

Our magnificent support 'getting behind the lads'. Perhaps a chorus of Arnie Arnie after he did this then maybe it would have spurred him on to better things. No, our supporters prefer to moan.

We can count you in for a chorus of Super Johnny Walters the next time he spanners one into the crowd then Pugs? Maybe a couple of "Whelan! Whelan!" the next time he hits row z or passes it into touch?
